It’s hard to imagine leveling up in Pokemon Go without catching Pokemon or participating in raids. However, it looks like one person has found a way.
Pokemon Go has come a long way since its release in 2016. With new Pokemon and events constantly being added, players have a reason to keep playing the game, especially if they want to be the very best by catching them all.
For a portion of the player base, grinding levels in Pokemon Go can take a while. The game does offer different options to get a chunk of XP to level up, whether it’s from catching nearby Pokemon, completing raids, or using Lucky Eggs.
Still, it seems that doesn’t stop a certain player from coming up with their own way to level up. In a Reddit post, one user shared an interesting discovery regarding a trainer who has reached level 34 despite essentially not playing the game the way it’s supposed to.
“This guy is going for lvl 40 by catching 0 Pokemon, 0 battles, 0 stops spun, etc. His only form of XP is opening gifts,” as stated in the post with a screenshot of the trainer’s account attached.

Other trainers were quick to jump on the thread, with a lot of them giving props to the person who own the account. “He’s a man of focus, commitment and sheer f***ing will,” one person commented.
Another response found it cool to see someone try something different. “I tip my hat to that. And if he’s interested in more friends, I would be open to adding him,” they mentioned. Meanwhile, others seemed to share the same idea and were keen on adding them just so they could see their journey.
All the positive reactions aside, it’s clear that some users weren’t too impressed. A user mentioned: “Damn… taking one of the most boring and tedious parts of this game and making it the only part of the game.” This was followed by a reply claiming it’s the “weirdest and most pointless flex of all time.”
In the comments, the OP also further elaborated that it’s just some guy on their FL, and they never sent them gifts. All he did was open them.
