Pokemon Go players looking to use the Dynamax mechanic to join Max Battles must collect Max Particles. In this guide, we’ll go over how to get Max Particles and locate Power Spots.
The Max Out season kicked off with plenty of fun content. New content included the Sword & Shield Dynamax mechanic, which turns regular Pokemon into gigantic creatures.
As Dynamax Pokemon made their debut in the Go Big event, players need to know how Power Spots work and how to earn the Max Particles that will allow them to participate in Max Battles.
What are Max Particles in Pokemon Go & what are they used for?
Max Particles or MP is an in-game resource players will need to constantly gather if they want to join Max Battles inside Power Spots. As stated above, every encounter will have a particular Max Particle cost that will vary. These will only be consumed if you successfully defeat the Max Battle Boss.
With the start of Pokemon Go’s Halloween 2024 event, some quests now require players to gather Max Particles. To complete the fourth step of Halloween Part 1’s Spiritomb Challenge Timed Research, you’ll need to gather a total of 1080 Max Particles to progress the quest.
How to find Max Particles
Max Particles can be obtained using three different methods:
- Interacting with Power Spots – 100 MP can be obtained per Power Spot daily.
- Walking – 300 MP total can be obtained by walking 2 km daily.
- Pokemon Go in-game Shop – MP can be purchased from the shop in two bundles: 150 PokeCoins for 800 MP and 425 PokeCoins for 2,400 MP.
The best way to grind Max Particles is by visiting Power Spots. Other methods limit how quickly MP can be earned, or cost players real money. Because of this, we would encourage players to stop and interact with every Power Spot they find.
What are Power Spots in Pokemon Go?
Power Spots are where Dynamax Pokemon are located. Power Spots appear on the map as new locations – they do not replace existing Gyms or PokeStops – and can be identified by a purple marker and a large ‘X’.
Unlike Gyms or PokeStops, these are temporary. These spots will shift around the map after a few days, depending on their timers.
Power Spots are where players must go if they want to join the turned-based Max Battles and capture Dynamax Pokemon. However, every encounter has a Max Particle cost. This amount is only detracted if the player successfully defeats the Pokemon featured.
What is the Max Particle daily cap?
The daily limit of Max Particles that can be collected from Power Spots is 800 MP. This is roughly eight stops. However, if you visit seven Power Spots, claim the 700 MP, and then claim the 300 by walking two km, you can exceed the soft cap.

How do Max Battles work?
To participate in a Max Battle, players must pay Max Particles. The amount of Max Particles required for each Max Battle will vary depending on the Pokemon featured. For example, Dynamax Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle have a cost of 250 Max Particles each.
Here are all the things to keep in mind when engaging in a Max Battle:
- Max Battles are turn-based. Meaning trainers all take turns hitting the boss Pokemon.
- Trainers must have at least one Dynamax Pokemon in their Party to join a Max Battle.
- Up to four trainers can join a Max Battle.
- Players will join the battle with their Pokemon in standard form. Using Charged and Fast attacks, they will charge up the Dynamax meter and trigger the ability when the meter is full.
- Dynamax lasts for three turns.
How to unlock Max Moves for Dynamax Pokemon
Every Dynamax Pokemon caught has access to three Max Moves. All come with the offensive one, Max Strike. 400 Max Particles and 50 Candy can be exchanged to unlock each of the other two: the shielding move Max Guard or the healing move Max Spirit.
Besides participating in Max Battles and unlocking moves, players can use their Max Particles to enhance Max Moves from Level 1 to Level 3:
LEVEL 1 TO LEVEL 2 COST | LEVEL 2 TO LEVEL 3 COST | |
---|---|---|
MAX MOVE | – 600 Max Particles– 100 Candy | – 800 Max Particles– 40 Candy XL |
Can you delete Max Particles in Pokemon Go?
No, you cannot delete Max Particles in Pokemon Go. At the time of writing, the only way to get rid of Max Particles is to use them. This can be to unlock new moves for your Dynamax Pokemon or to take part in Dynamax Battles.
The reason this is a problem is because Trainers cannot click on Power Spots to earn more Max Particles unless they have space for more. Several new Field Research tasks depend on earning Max Particles to be completed, becoming an issue for many.
While it seems simple enough to use the Max Particles to unlock moves and make room for more, this also uses Candy from the Pokemon. So if Trainers either don’t want to use the Candy needed, or don’t want to give this Pokemon another Max Move (perhaps it’s not a strong Pokemon), it can be frustrating.
The other answer would be to increase your Max Particles storage, but right now that is not possible in Pokemon Go. While Trainers can purchase the MP Pack item which rewards players with 800 MP, there is no way to just hold a larger amount of Max Particles overall.
