The annual Pokemon Go Valentine’s Day event is returning, bringing never-before-seen species in the mobile game, the release of shiny Chansey and, of course, bonuses for trainers to enjoy.
Much like other recent Pokemon Go happenings, the event will start in your local time, meaning you don’t need to worry about working out time zones or not being able to make the most of it. The 2020 Valentine’s Day event will start on Friday, February 14, 8am and finish Monday, February 17, 10pm.
More Pink Pokemon!
Increased sightings of Red Pokemon were recently found as part of the 2020 Lunar New Year event and now pink Pokemon will be appearing more frequently for Valentine’s Day weekend. This will apply to the wild, Raid Bosses, eggs and even field research encounters.
Audino and Alomomola introduced
Events such as these often introduce a previously unseen Pokemon to the game, and this event will be no different. We’re currently right in the middle of the Gen 5 rollout, with as prior to this event, 61 species remaining.
Two new Pokemon will be added to the ever-popular game: Audino and Alomomola. Audino, the Hearing Pokemon, fits the bill for a Valentine’s Day release as it is a dual normal and Fairy-type and looks to be totally harmless.
Alomomola is known as the Caring Pokemon, so it’s hardly surprising it’s being released as part of this event. Neither of these species are anything to get excited about in terms of the Pokemon Go meta. However, interestingly, despite its non-threatening looks, Alomomola has the fifth-best stamina stats in the entire game!
Special Raid Day
Within the event will be another – a special Raid Day. This will take place on Saturday, February 15, from 2pm to 5pm, once again in local time. It will feature the famous Kanto Pokemon, Lickitung.
While the Licking Pokemon has already been released, the special Raid Day will give trainers the chance to encounter its shiny form for the first time. It will feature exclusively in four-star Raid Battles and know the powerful move Body Slam.

The special Raid Day will also give you the chance to receive up to five additional Raid Passes. These won’t cost any extra but you won’t be able to hold onto more than one at a time.

Chansey shiny
Chansey (and Blissey) are seen defending gyms across the Pokemon Go world. This is because they are arguably the best gym defenders in the entire game.
They have ridiculous stamina stats of 487 and 496, respectively, the first and second highest across all Pokemon. To put this into perspective, the third-ranked Pokemon for stamina is Wobbuffet which stamina of more than 100 less, on 382.

Both shiny Happiny and shiny Chansey will be appearing in the wild, albeit very rarely. You’ll also be able to get shiny Blissey, but you’ll need to evolve shiny Chansey to do so.
Following the 2020 Valentine’s Day event, trainers can look forward to next weekend’s special Friendship event.
