Yveltal is returning to Pokemon Go as part of the Shared Skies season, so we’ve rounded up details of its weaknesses, the best counters to help you defeat it in 5-Star Raid battles, and whether it can be Shiny or not.
Known as the Destruction Pokemon, the bird-like Yveltal first appeared in Pokemon X & Y’s Kalos region and then debuted in Pokemon Go in May 2021. It certainly lives up to its name, with a fearsome design and a huge amount of power.
If you’ve not managed to catch one yet, or you’re on the hunt for a Shiny version, you’ll be glad to know that Yveltal is returning to 5-Star Raids. So to help you defeat this powerful Legendary, here are the best counters to take advantage of Yveltal’s weaknesses.
Yveltal weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Yveltal is a dual Dark/Flying-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks. You’ll want to focus on counters of these types for the best chance at taking it down.
On the flip side, Yveltal is immune to Ground and Psychic types and is resistant to Ghost, Grass, and Dark types, so avoid taking Pokemon of these types into battle.
Another important thing to remember: Yveltal’s power is boosted by Fog and Windy weather, so it’s best to avoid battling it during these conditions – unless you want a more difficult challenge, that is.

Here are some of the best counters you can use during the battle:
POKEMON | SPRITE | BEST MOVESET |

Mega Rayquaza | Dragon Tail & Dragon Ascent | |

The list includes Megas, Legendaries, Shadow, and more common Pokemon so there should be something for trainers of all levels.
However, even though the creatures listed are very effective against Yveltal, they still need to be leveled up and know the proper moves if you want to win the battle.

How to get Yveltal in Pokemon Go
As with all other Legendaries, the only way players can get Yveltal in Pokemon Go is by defeating it in 5-Star Raid battles and then capturing it using the Premier Balls given.
Luckily, this mighty creature is coming back to the game thanks to the latest raid rotations, so players will have the chance to capture it from June 19, 2024, until June 28, 2024.
Additionally, it will be featured in two Raid Hours, one on June 19, 2024, and the other on June 26, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time.
Yveltal will be accompanied by Mega Charizard Y in Mega Raids and they’ll both be replaced by Ho-Oh and Mega Tyranitar, respectively, on June 28, 2024.
Can Yveltal be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Yveltal can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this version was added at the start of the Fashion Week event in 2022, and players will have the chance to find it during the Pokemon’s comeback.
Shiny Yveltal’s colors are quite different from the regular version, as the red has a more deep tone and the black details on the wings and tail are white instead of black.
Although Legendary Raid Bosses do have a much higher chance of being Shiny than regular wild spawns, it’s still going to require a mix of luck and persistence to find a Shiny Yveltal.
