The Galar region’s Legendary Zamazenta is finally returning to Pokemon Go. It will be appearing in 5-Star Raids for a limited time, so here are the best counters to defeat the Fighting-type Pokemon fast.
Sword & Shield Legendaries – Zacian and Zamazenta – are two of the most difficult Legendary Pokemon to catch in Niantic’s mobile game due to their sporadic appearances.
However, thanks to the Max Out season, both are making stellar appearances to introduce their Shiny versions, with the Shield mascot being featured in 5-Star Raid battles during the Galarian Expedition event.
Zamazenta weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Zamazenta – Hero of Many Battles – is a pure Fighting-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Fairy, Flying, and Psychic-type attacks. That’s why trainers should focus on bringing their best Pokemon of these types with matching moves.
As for strengths, Zamazenta can resist Bug, Dark, and Rock-type Pokemon, so definitely avoid these where possible. Below you’ll find the best counters to take into battle.
Zamazenta best counters
Here are some of the best counters you can use against Zamazenta during the battle:
POKEMON | SPRITE | BEST MOVESET |
---|---|---|
Mega Rayquaza | Air Slash & Dragon Ascent | |
Mega Alakazam | Psycho Cut & Psychic | |
Shadow Mewtwo | Psycho Cut & Psystrike | |
Shadow Ho-Oh | Extrasensory & Brave Bird | |
Dusk Mane Necrozma | Psycho Cut & Sunsteel Strike | |
Dawn Wings Necrozma | Psycho Cut & Moongeist Beam | |
Salamence | Dragon Tail & Fly | |
Gardevoir | Confusion & Dazzling Gleam | |
Metagross | Zen Headbutt & Psychic | |
Gengar | Shadow Claw & Psychic |
We’ve included a mix of Megas, Legendaries, Shadow, and more common Pokemon in the table above so there should be something for trainers of all levels. In case you don’t have any of them, focus on your strongest Fairy, Flying, and Psychic-type creatures.
Remember that even though the Pokemon listed are very effective against Zamazenta, they still need to be leveled up and know the proper moves if you want to win the battle.

How to get Zamazenta in Pokemon Go
As with all Legendaries, the only way to catch Zamazenta in Pokemon Go is to defeat it in a 5-Star Raid Battle and then attempt to catch it using the limited amount of Premier Balls given to you at the end of the encounter.
Zamazenta will be available in 5-Star Raid Battles from October 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM local time until October 11, 2024, at 8:00 PM local time, as it will be the main attraction of the Galarian Expedition event.
Zamazenta CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Zamazenta has during a Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after the encounter. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.

CP range once captured | 2100 – 2188 |
Cloudy weather CP range | 2625 – 2735 |
Field and Special Research CP range | 1575 – 1641 |
Egg CP range | 2100 – 2188 |
Zamazenta max CP (Level 50) | 4329 |
Can Zamazenta be Shiny?
Yes, Zamazenta can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as the Galarian Expedition event mentioned above will introduce this special Shiny variation into the game.
Those who take on Zamazenta during its time as a 5-Star Raid boss will have increased chances of finding its Shiny version, which can be identified by its fuchsia body, and burgundy details.
To keep you from being disappointed, remember that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon in general are very low and there’s no technique to ensure you’ll find one.
