Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players think the February 1 patch actually made the game “run worse” in terms of performance.
Originally slated for a late January rollout, Scarlet and Violet’s Version 3.0.1 update arrived on February 1 and weighed in at nearly 5GB on Switch.
The patch most notably ushered in a whole host of bug fixes, which tackled certain move-related hiccups, TM problems, and the Dragon Cheer glitch.
While the player base applauded these improvements, many now think 3.0.1 actually introduced about as many problems as it solved.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players say patch made the game worse
A Reddit user recently posed the following question to fellow Scarlet and Violet players, “Anybody notice the game runs worse after the February 1st patch?”
The player said the 3.0 update that went launched the Indigo Disk DLC in December had improved the game’s overall performance. Even some gameplay elements felt more refined. Yet, ever since developers implemented the February 1 changes, Scarlet and Violet has been “running very slowly when loading.”
The Redditor claims it now takes upwards of a minute for the title to switch from the main screen to the actual game. Poke Ball and Held Item icons seem to take a long time when loading, as well.

While the original poster wondered if it may be a problem with their Switch, other fans chimed in to say they’ve also noticed performance issues since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s February 1 patch.
One user commented, “yup. Sometimes when my miraidon is flying the screen freezes on me now. So annoying!!”
Someone else also agreed and said, the Pokemon title‘s “lagging a lot now.”
Another person replied that they’ve especially noticed hiccups with respect to weather conditions. The user explained, “Rain used to be the only weather effect with super noticeable lag. Now snow is as bad as rain.”
But there is one fan in the thread who said their Switch OLED handles the game well, barring a few issues in the “area of the East Province canyons.”
If the problem proves to be widespread, here’s hoping developer Game Freak deploys a fix sooner rather than later.
