The Pokemon TCG community is bustling with excitement as a recent card fetched nearly $10k at auction, and most Pokemon fans can go and buy the set containing it on shelves today.
Even people with little to no knowledge of the Pokemon TCG, or the Pokemon franchise at large, know one universal truth about those preposterous Pocket Monsters: Charizard sells.
Originally featured on the box of Pokemon Red, and the beloved Charmander’s final evolution, the draconian Fire-type Charizard is almost always one of the most popular cards in any Pokemon TCG release.
The most recent Pokemon TCG set was released in the West just a few weeks ago and is called Pokemon TCG: Scarlet & Violet Paldean Fates. While all cards drum up some excitement, the “Fates” line features those coveted Shiny Pokemon, and yes, there is a Shiny Charizard.
So, naturally, a Shiny Charizard card is already proving to be very popular, and as many Pokemon TCG fans prefer the quality of the Japanese releases, a Japanese version of the new Shiny Charizard was always going to be a hot ticket in the community.
Rare Charizard Pokemon TCG card sells for nearly $10k
A Pokemon TCG player has shared a post on Reddit, detailing that a PSA 10-graded, Japanese version of the Pokemon TCG Paldean Fates Full Art Illustrated Shiny Charizard, has sold for $8100 at auction.
The person behind the original post comments, saying “I stopped at $250.” Meanwhile, a lot of other fans have some stern things to say, with more than a few suggesting there might be something fishy about the quickly inflated price.

A Pokemon fan comments, saying “Someone just cooked themselves so hard they deserve a Michelin Star.” Referring to the huge price of the card, which is still in circulation.
Another comment adds, “I know people like to chase the “perfect” card but when you could buy the regular card for less than 1/20th of the price…I’ll never understand it lol. You could get so many other rarer cards with that money.”
Not everyone is as surprised, with one person explaining that previous cards have sold for huge prices, saying “Kinda shocked it didn’t go for more. The first English Hidden Fates Black Label Zard originally sold for over 10k.”
Then, a couple of comments mention that the inflated price might point to something nefarious, with one comment saying, “this wreaks of money laundering lol” before another person adds, “This is why grading is a scam.”
Whether fans pull the Japanese or English version of this rare Charizard card, it’s still one of the best picks from the top Pokemon TCG Paldean Fates chase cards. So, if you want to try and bag one, learn where to buy Pokemon TCG Paldean Fates with our guide.
