Shiny Pokemon | Pokemon Let’s Go Spawn Rate

It is confirmed that Shiny Pokemon will feature in Pokemon Let’s Go. We discuss how to catch these shinys and how to increase the spawn rate.

What are Shiny Pokemon?

Shiny Pokemon have become highly coveted. This is despite not offering any additional benefit when it comes to battles.

Shiny Pokemon are simply a collectors item due to their rarity. Nevertheless, shiny Pokemon are very much sought after to the point where there are actual collectors of shinys among Pokemon fans.

Pokemon Go Shiny

There have been shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go for a while now. The odds of finding such are estimated to be 1 in 450.

When you do find one it isn’t always clear. With Pokemon such as Gyarados its red skin makes it clear that it is a shiny version. However, Pokemon such as Cubone are harder to distinguish between.

Pokemon Let’s Go Shiny

Although a loose remake of Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green, one big difference is that shiny variants in Pokemon Let’s Go will more prevalent. These are encountered in wild battles. Alternatively, they can also be transferred directly from Pokemon Go.

Finding Shiny Pokemon

The shiny versions are roaming the wild just like normal wild Pokemon. Their colour won’t appear to be any different making it tricky to spot them.

However, they will have a sparkly aura around them which should make it clear enough. If you see one, run over to it before it disappears as the odds of encountering another are unlikely…

Spawn Rates

The base odds of encountering a shiny in the wild are 1 in 4,096. In others words, not likely.

It isn’t quite as bad as it sounds though. You can see several wild Pokemon at a time. Therefore, unlike previous wild encounters, where you’d have to enter battle to see the Pokemon, you can go through wild Pokemon at a much quicker rate.

Increase the Odds

The method to increase the odds of shiny Pokemon appearing is called chain catching or chain count. A chain count is where you catch the same Pokemon consecutively.

For example, catching three Caterpies in a row gives you a chain count of three. However, if you catch a Weedle in between the second and third Caterpie then the chain will be broken. The chain will also break if you save/quit the game or if the Pokemon runs away. 

It has been confirmed that if you run away from a Pokemon you didn’t mean to encounter this won’t break the chain. You can see the chain count in the top-left corner of the screen.

Chain Count Odds

The best odds for catching a shiny Pokemon come after a chain count of 31.

The increased odds have been discussed and debated across the Pokemon community. The initial odds of encountering a shiny Pokemon in the wild are 1 in 4,096 (the same as generation seven). The best odds you can have for catching a shiny Pokemon are 1 in 273.07 or 0.37%.

On top of this though, there is also the added factor of the shiny charm which you can receive when you show a completed PokeDex (1 to 150) to the Game Director.
