After a few days of sightings of Uxie, Mespirit and Azelf, the legendary lake guardian trio are now appearing in raid battles. These are the latest legends to be added to Pokemon Go.
Uxie, Mespirit and Azelf spawning in Pokemon Go
Ever since the March release of Dialga, the Pokemon generation 4 rollout has gone through a lull period. That is until now with the introduction of the lake guardians, also known as the lake trio, Uxie, Mespirit and Azelf.
From out of nowhere, Niantic initially teased their introduction to Pokemon Go on the official Twitter page. After sparingly being available in the wild, each are now available as raid bosses. However, each of the lake guardians are region specific.
Their specific regions are as follows:
- Uxie: Asia-Pacific
- Mespirit: Europe, Middle East, Africa and India
- Azelf: Americas and Greenland
Trainers would have expected a special event to introduce them, or even an event for each. Their immediate release will come as a welcome surprise to Pokemon trainers.
A first for legendary Pokemon
The addition of Uxie, Mespirit and Azelf is an interesting move from Niantic, not because of the Pokemon themselves but because they are catchable in the wild. Until now, legendary Pokemon have only been available in raid battles or as part of special research breakthroughs.
Despite being added to raid battles, the three Gen 4 legends will be available in the wild also, although they will be rare.

One explanation for why they’re available in the wild could be that they won’t change the Pokemon Go meta. Uxie offers some very good attack stats and Azelf defense, but even with that said, none of the three will be used in competitive play to any real notable degree.

How to get the lake guardians?
First seen in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, we do know all three of them are indeed spawning and that anecdotal evidence suggests they are doing so nearby water. Other than that there isn’t any technique yet known to increase the likelihood of them spawning.

Furthermore, as expected, they are all proving difficult to catch. Some Pokemon Go trainers think the base catch rate is as low as 1%. If you do find one make sure to use a razz or golden berry on it with an ultra ball, as it sounds like another won’t appear shortly after.
