The PUBG Global Championship has been plagued by a vehicle bug that almost cost North American team The Rumblers a spot in the grand final after one of their players was catapulted to their death.
The PUBG Global Championship is the biggest event on the game’s pro schedule every year. With over $3 million in prize money on offer, and the title of being the best PUBG team in the world, there’s a lot to fight for.
32 teams were dwindled down to 24 for the semi finals, with only 16 teams being sent to the grand final on November 23. One of those teams were The Rumblers, who weren’t even supposed to be here — only qualifying after a team were forced to pull out due to visa issues.
That hasn’t stopped them from showing up and proving their worth with some excellent performances. They were having a day to forget on Day 2 of the semis, however, sitting at the bottom of the lobby with 11 points, when their luck seemed to give out completely and they suffered a major set-back with a game-breaking bug.
The North American squad was prepping during their Miramar game, looting around Hacienda during their first phase rotation. Alex ‘CherryPoppins’ Penner was leading the pack, but as he crashed into a building to go inside and loot, he was flung into the air.

CherryPoppins ended up dying to fall damage from plummeting out of the vehicle and was cleaned up by Argentinian team WClick on the ground. His teammate Agron ‘Waldoe’ Jashari was then caught out without CherryPoppins in a 1v3, while Lari-Pekka ‘LosHD’ Hopiavori flew in late to try and assist.
Waldoe managed to trade back a kill before going down but all three of them ended up going down in the scramble, leaving the struggling squad with only one member left for the rest of the map.

CherryPoppins was obviously disgruntled with the bug, calling out PUBG over such a big glitch impacting such a big game.
“Imagine experiencing a massive bug that cost you a fight in a tournament that’s worth over three million dollars,” he said.
The lobby could have possibly been remade, because CherryPoppins’ death was the first of the game and only eight minutes have passed. However, the admins didn’t call on such a ruling, leaving the Rumblers to reminisce and lick their wounds.

The Rumblers finished up the semi-finals with 65 points, sitting in 7th in their group. It was enough to secure a top 16 placing to progress to the final, so CherryPoppins and the rest of the crew will have a chance to fight back next weekend.
The PUBG Global Championship grand final will take place in Oakland, California on November 23 and 24.
