Rainbow Six Siege free-to-play weekend in March: How to play

Ubisoft

Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Siege will be having a free-to-play weekend for players who might want to try the game out for the first time, or for those who want to hop back into the popular FPS title.

Siege has historically promoted free weekends following the release of new content, and that’s no different this time around.

The Rainbow Six free weekend will start roughly two weeks after new operators Iana and Oryx were introduced in the Operation: Void Edge update.

From March 5 to 9, depending on the platform, players will be able to download and play Siege completely free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

If you don’t want to waste any time on March 5 waiting for the game to load, PlayStation and PC players have the option to pre-load the game starting on March 3. Xbox players, on the other hand, will have to wait until the free weekend begins to start downloading the game.

The free weekend does start earlier for Xbox players, though, on March 5 at 12AM PST, instead of at 5AM PST on the 5th for PlayStation 4 and PC players.

Xbox’s free weekend also ends earlier, on March 8, instead of on the 9th when the PS4 and PC free weekends expire.

The free weekend will begin and end at different times, depending on where you are and what system you’re playing on.

If players want to continue fragging out in Siege, their progress will carry over with them into the game if they decide to pick it up after the trial period.

Siege is still one of the most popular FPS titles on the market after releasing in 2015.

There’s been talk from developers about Siege going free to play permanently, but they said in an interview they’d like to try and fix smurfing in the game before going fully F2P.

At least fans and interested players will have a free weekend to try out the new operators and a chance to pick the game up on sale after – which is almost the next best thing to the game being completely free.
