Viewers are upset with Season 22 of American Idol for showing too much of the contestants’ personal lives.
The first episode for Season 22 of the popular music competition, American Idol just released over the weekend and it was a must-see.
Not only were several talented contestants introduced to the world, but viewers were reunited with the superstar judges panel: Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
The only issue that fans had a problem with during the premiere was the personal storylines. Before most of the contestants performed, it cut to a backstory of themselves talking about their personal lives and showing the audience why this audition meant the world to them.
While some didn’t have a problem with this addition to the show, many viewers are complaining that it is completely overshadowing the point of the competition.

American Idol Season 22 fans hate the backstories
On February 18, American Idol viewers quickly took to Reddit to share their displeasure with how the premiere.
One fan wrote, “I hate all the hometown footage. I wonder how much it is to fly all the crew out to these random places and film. Cut that shit from the budget and give us more episodes and better coaching for the singers.”
Another fan chimed in and wrote, “Can we go back to American idol where we saw mostly auditions? Who asked for these back stories, you see them cut to them at hometown and you are like okay well I guess this person can sing.”
The bright side is that after the audition episodes, the backstories become less and less and it’s more focused on the performances. But, these viewers have to be committed enough to keep watching these personal scenes to get that far.
