Those in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community may be looking over their shoulders, after Pokemon character, earning his place among the best Melee players to have ever played the game.
So much is his love for Jigglypuff, however, that her weak state in Nintendo’s latest release Smash Ultimate left him sticking to Melee, only dipping his feet in the water of the 2018 release every so often. That is, until the title’s 6.0.0 patch on November 6.

Jigglypuff had a few changes to her kit, mainly based around reducing her vulnerability on her air and moving air dodges. There were some major buffs too though, which left her AC drill into rest move incredibly reliable, and turned her rollout into a strong mixup tool.
Of course, Hungrybox immediately took to the training arena to test out the new changes. What he found there was an exciting new possibility, and one that could see him finally step into the Ultimate circuit in a major way.
“Hey Ultimate community, I’m coming, I’m coming fast,” he said as he tested ‘Puff’s new moves, before taking his favorite character into online matchups.
There, his excitement only reached new levels again, as he battled back from a three-stock deficit to fire his opponent’s Wii Fit Trainer off-screen, and into a defeat.
“Ohhh! Wooooow!” he yelled in glee as he earned his first victory. “Holy f*ck, holy f*cking sh*t, it works! It f*cking works! Puff is good, Puff is good! I can’t believe it, that’s both in practice and in an online match, three star comeback. It f*cking works!

Jigglypuff’s new-found power may not be meta-breaking, Hungrybox explained, but he clearly feels he can contest high-level Ultimate tournaments again with the character that he’s been playing since he first announced his arrival with a 3rd place finish at GENESIS in 2009.
“I do think that when you have a character that with a significant enough change the meta could play a bit if players begin to fear her, but these are just quick adjustments, so I think people will play the same way now,” he explained.
“Maybe people will just give her (Jigglypuff) an ounce more respect. They’ll know drill-busts are a thing, that counter-rush is a thing, so they won’t leave themselves open to those.”
Even if Jigglypuff’s 6.0.0 changes aren’t meta-defining, Hungrybox said that he believes he can finally make an impact at Ultimate tournaments, where he’s struggled in the past.
His first attempt at the title on-stage finished with a 25-32nd placement at Smash Conference United in January. Following that, he was bundled out of GENESIS 6 finish 193-256th. 13-16th at Thunder Smash, where he lost 3-1 to Mr.R, marked his best-ever result in the game.

Now, with the new-found power in Jigglypuff’s kit, Debiedma suggested he can put those poor results behind him, and finally forge a path right into the heart of the latest Smash release — a thought he’ll put to the test at GENESIS: BLACK this weekend in California.
Beyond that, the Melee god may even try his hand at an Ultimate campaign at the title’s next major, 2GG: Kongo Saga, or at EVO Japan 2020 in January next year. Now that Hbox’s favorite Pokemon has been buffed, it seems his Ultimate career might be back on track.
