Team SoloMid Smash Ultimate pro Gavin ‘Tweek’ Dempsey has pulled off one of the most nail-biting clutches in the game’s history, winning his top 8 set against William ‘Glutonny’ Belaid at Kongo Saga with some incredible Wario mechanics.
Tweek is heralded as one of the best Smash Ultimate players. Since the game’s release, Tweek has been dominating most tournaments he’s attended, including wins at Frostbite, Get On My Level, and a second place at EVO 2019.
However, this top 8 Kongo Saga set against Glutonny would prove to be one of the TSM’s best yet, with the Wario mirror match providing a spectacle for all.
The two players were locked neck-and-neck in a thrilling set that went to five games. Both Wario aficionados flexed their muscles as the night wore on, but heading into the final game, Glutonny started pulling ahead.
The Frenchman held a stock lead over Tweek deep into game five, and the series looked all but secured. However, Tweek had other plans, fighting back from 125% on his final stock with an insane clutch.
Constantly comboing the opposing Wario, Glutonny had very little room to fight back on his final stock. Tweek almost knocked him out at around 91% without taking an ounce of damage himself, but the up-air wasn’t enough to take Glutonny off the map.

The French player fought back, trading back with Tweek to almost take him off the map at 157% with a side-B. With the two trading back seemingly final blow after final blow, the crowd and the casters could not believe what they were seeing.
The battle finally finished when Glutonny was knocked around one too many times, failing to make it back onto the platform. With the pressure released, Tweek popped off and took in a big sigh of relief after securing his spot in the top three.
Glutonny was knocked down to the loser’s bracket, where he ended up finishing in 5/6th after falling down to Paris ‘Light’ Ramirez in another close five-map series.

For Tweek though, he set his sights on taking down 2019 Smash Ultimate EVO Champion Leonardo ‘MKLeo’ Lopez Perez in the Winner’s Final.
However, the Joker main once again knocked Tweek away from greatness, forcing the Wario player into the lower bracket against Enrique ‘Maister’ Hernández Solís. He took down Maister to secure a rematch against MKLeo in the Grand Final, but once again played second fiddle to the Mexican superstar of Smash, losing 3-2.
Tweek can still hold his head up high regardless of the final result, knowing that he has pulled off one of the greatest clutches ever witnessed in Smash Ultimate in such a high pressure situation.
