Everton’s points deduction for breaching financial rules was reduced to six points after an appeal by the Merseyside club.
Fans of the Goodison Park outfit were in uproar following the decision to dock the club 10 points back in November, a sanction that dropped them into the relegation mire.
Everton are winless in nine Premier League games but their reduced sanction has seen them move up to 15th in the table, ahead of Brentford and Nottingham Forest, and five points above Luton in the final relegation spot.
The Premier League’s statement on Everton’s punishment
A Premier League statement said: “Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted.
“Two of those nine grounds were upheld by the Appeal Board, which has substituted the original points deduction of 10 for six.

“This revised sanction has immediate effect and the Premier League table will be updated today to reflect this.”
Although Everton did admit to their breaches, there is frustration among Premier League fans at the lack of developments regarding Manchester City, who were hit with 115 financial charges last February.
A date has been set for City’s hearing but that date has not been disclosed to the public, and some fans think that the time it is taking for City’s case to be resolved makes a mockery of how Everton have been treated.
Pep Guardiola said at the time that he had “no doubts” that City deserved the success they achieved on the pitch irrespective of the charges against them.
