A Hearts player responded to being targeted with a fan’s pie in interesting fashion during the Edinburgh derby.
Hearts and Hibs met at Tynecastle on Wednesday night and the spoils were shared after a 1-1 draw.
Perhaps the incident from the game that will live longest in the memory occurred after Hearts’ equalising goal.
Lawrence Shankland had just levelled things up with an emphatically dispatched penalty for the hosts when a fan hurled a pie onto the pitch.
What a catch!
The pie didn’t actually make it onto the playing surface, as Shankland caught it with one hand, bit a great, big chunk out of it, and chucked it back in the direction of the stand from which it came.
Fans found the funny side of it online, but some did query whether it was wise of the striker to eat something that had been thrown at him by a rival fan.

One user on X wrote: “Would you eat something that a fan of your biggest rival threw at you? I certainly wouldn’t.”
Another said: “Eating it is bold not going to lie, you don’t know what the guy’s done to it.”
Shankland didn’t appear to suffer any ill effects from eating the pie and even took to Instagram the day after the match to give the pie a rating out of 10.
“Some sort of spicy pie – 1/10”, he wrote on Instagram alongside a thumbs-down emoji.
