Mason Greenwood reportedly has little desire to play for Manchester United again, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe saying his situation will be reassessed in the summer.
Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan in August following the conclusion of an internal investigation by United into serious allegations made against him.
United had planned to integrate Greenwood back into the squad at the beginning of this season but a fierce backlash prompted a rethink and a club statement said it would be “most appropriate” for the 22-year-old to resume his career away from Old Trafford.
Greenwood was due to stand trial on charges of attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault in November 2023 but all charges were dropped in February 2023 following the withdrawal of key witnesses and the emergence of new material.
There was a feeling of finality surrounding United’s decision to jettison Greenwood last August, with sources strongly believing he would not play for the club again, despite having only left on loan.
Ratcliffe opens the door for Greenwood return
However, earlier this month Ratcliffe said United would make a “fresh decision” on Greenwood’s future, seemingly opening the door for a return.

Greenwood, though, harbours “no great desire” to play for United again, according to The Athletic.
It is claimed that Greenwood would be reluctant to accept an offer to play for United again and feels the club should have been more supportive of him after the allegations came to light.
Greenwood is reportedly enjoying life in Madrid, where he is away from the spotlight that would be on him in England, and the prospect of remaining in LaLiga beyond the end of this campaign is said to appeal.
Getafe are reportedly pleased with Greenwood but think they may be priced out of a permanent move. Greenwood’s United contract is due to expire in 2025 but United have the option to extend it by an additional year and could do so if they want to maintain his resale value.
