Developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has shared very little about Stardew Valley update 1.6; here’s everything we know, so far.
In a VGKami interview in late 2021, Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe said he had no further update plans for the popular farming sim. However, that changed with the announcement of update 1.6.
At the time, the developer said 1.6 would introduce changes for modders, as well as a minimal amount of new game content compared to 1.5.
But based on what’s been shown so far – and ConcernedApe’s own admission that “1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned,” it’s clear Stardew Valley’s next major update has more in store than initially expected.
Here’s everything we know about the 1.6, thus far.
Stardew Valley’s confirmed update 1.6 content
In a July 17, 2023 tweet that’s since garnered a lot of attention, ConcernedApe noted that all of the following is in the works for update 1.6: A new festival, new items, more dialogues, and secrets.
Interestingly, another cryptic tweet from the Stardew creator in May hinted that the Scythe may finally receive a new upgrade. The post simply read, “iridium scythe.”
Since the Scythe is the only in-game tool whose upgrades stop at “Golden,” fans believe an Iridium upgrade could eventually see the light of day. It’s possible Stardew Valley 1.6 will usher in such a change.

A later update confirmed even more new content for update 1.6, including winter outfits for villagers, over 100 new lines of dialogue, and alternatives to late-game quests for those who go the Joja route.
ConcernedApe also celebrated the start of 2024 with a New Year’s Day post that shows characters on the beach in the winter, possibly during one of the new festivals.
Of course, as initially promised, update 1.6 will make things easier for modders by giving them “much simpler and more powerful access.”
Does Stardew Valley’s next update have a release date?
Stardew Valley update 1.6 will release on PC on March 19. The release date was announced on February 26, Stardew Valley’s eighth anniversary.
The update will come to consoles and mobile at a later date, with ConcernedApe promising it “as soon as possible.”
