SEGA Hyperkin handheld

Hyperkin Mega 95 prototype designThe Verge, Hyperkin

Some tech products were just too far ahead of their time. The technology just wasn’t ready to support the concept. This was arguably the case with the SEGA Nomad, a portable SEGA Genesis from the mid-90s that suffered, due to the technology of the era.

Hyperkin saw that the core concept of a portable SEGA Genesis was a solid one, and so they have created one using modern techniques, without the shortcomings of its predecessor. The Hyperkin Mega 95 can still play original Genesis cartridges, but instead of a piddly two-and-a-quarter-inch screen, it sports a glorious five-inch display and a battery life of ten hours. It even has a dock that can support additional controllers. Best of all, it looks like a giant six-button Genesis or Saturn controller. If only the tech had been this good in 1995.

Cooler Master Shark X PC

Growing up I was a ‘shark kid’ and although my admiration for my aquatic pals isn’t as prominent as it once was, if I see a shark-shaped gaming PC, like the Cooler Master Shark X, I’m going to get excited.

Likely, I’ll never have the approximately $7,000 budget to add this monster of a build to my setup in time for its Q2 2024 release, never mind the desk space to accommodate it. Yet, ever since I saw photos being shared on the CES 2024 event floor of the RGB-lit beast, I couldn’t look away.

The specs aren’t too bad either, with the shark-shaped build featuring an MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card, paired with an Intel i7-14700KF processor, 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory, a Cooler Master 120 AIO Aorus liquid cooler, and a 1TB of M.e PCIe 4.0 SSD. If that’s not enough, Cooler Master told Tom’s Hardware that the PC is “fully upgradable.” However it looks like you’re gonna need a bigger case to add the likes of an RTX 4090 to this fierce, fishy rig.

Samsung QD-OLED Monitors

Samsung’s slate of brand-new QD-OLED monitors caught my eye at CES 2024. With so many products being announced, it takes something truly unique to stand out from the sea of press releases in my inbox. OLED monitors are a great idea, and having used an ASUS monitor of this kind for several weeks in 2023, I could never shake the feeling that running one daily was just a speedrun to getting burn-in on a shiny and expensive bit of equipment. QD-OLED tech changes all that, without any compromises, thanks to a new formula being rolled out by the company.

The company announced three panels: A 49-inch ultrawide monstrosity, a 32-inch 4K panel, and finally a 27-inch 1440p display. While it might not be the fanciest or the highest-end. The 1440p QDOLED offers up to a 360Hz refresh rate, and with a 0.3ms response time, it makes the panel absolutely perfect for gaming. You also get OLED Glare-Free tech under the hood to keep images sharp and clear, without compromising your visual quality.

You can’t also ignore the sleek design of these panels, either. The Odyssey monitor lineup has always looked incredible, and the latest panels continue that tradition, with tiny bezels, and some nice rear lighting if you are keen on getting your gaming setup not only looking like a spaceship but glowing like one too. While the pricing of these monitors has yet to be announced, I know that I’ll be first in line to pick one up. They just look too good to miss.

MW75 Neuro headphones

Master & Dynamic MW75 NeuroMaster & Dynamic / Neurable

The Master & Dynamic’s MW75-Neuro might look like a regular pair of headphones, but they’re amongst the list of best products of CES 2024 for a reason. Made in collaboration with Neurable, these $675 headphones come with built-in sorcery that promises excellent sound and mind-reading prowess.

The neural sensors in these headphones measure your brainwaves to help determine the peak focus times and the moments of stress with the press of a button. A bundled app then offers a detailed breakdown and a focus score, helping you identify focus periods, recognize subtle signs of stress, and discover optimal mental well-being conditions.

The MW75-Neuro is shaping up to be a killer headset for people looking to avoid burnout and help optimize their day. Besides this brain-powered boon, the headphones also offer noise-cancellation, a long battery life, and an audiophile-grade audio output. I just wish I was there to try them for myself.

JBL Live Buds 3

JBL CES 2024JBL

JBL unveiled a range of audio products at this year’s CES, but the JBL Live Buds 3 caught our attention more than anything else. These buds are made for serious outdoor runs and everyday use – they are super durable with an IP55 rating.

However, the major highlight here is the 1.45-inch LED touch display on the charging case. You can handle calls, check texts, control your music, and catch those social media alerts, all right from the case. Sure, the feature might seem a bit extra if you’ve got a smartwatch or always keep your phone close. But, for those who don’t, having a touchscreen smart case is a sweet little bonus.
