Honor has announced its first clamshell foldable smartphone, featuring a super competitive price tag, a design by fashion guru Jimmy Choo, and the world’s biggest and brightest cover screen.
Chinese smartphone maker Honor has launched a new foldable device with a form factor similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5. The company is established in the foldable segment, having launched one of the slimmest book-style devices.
Honor’s new flip phone is called the Magic V Flip, and its raw specs portray it as one of the most impressive flip foldables on the market. Its key feature is the large 4-inch LTPO OLED cover screen. For reference, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 3.4-inch display on the outside.
The front screen has a resolution of 1,092 x 1,200 pixels (405 ppi), a 120Hz refresh rate that can adjust to match the content, a maximum brightness of up to 1,600 nits (making it the brightest cover screen on any flip phone yet), and uses 2,160 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
Another major highlight of the smartphone is its design. It comes in Iris Black, Camellia White, and Champagne Pink. There’s also a limited-edition Jimmy Choo version which features green glitter inspired by designer shoes and crystal ornaments.

It’s also very thin, at 7.15mm when unfolded, or 14.89mm when folded shut, and weighs 193 grams. Honor is offering optional accessories to turn the phone into a “watch, bag, etc.”
Elsewhere, the Honor Magic V Flip brings a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 50MP+ 12MP camera system on the rear, and up to 1TB storage.
The Honor Magic V Flip is currently not available outside China. Its pricing suggests it might give tough competition to Samsung, starting at 4,999 yuan for the version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is about $689. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is $999.
