Want to set up a Passkey on your PS4 and PS5 console? Here’s everything you need to know about the new sign-in method for your PlayStation.

Security for users is of the utmost importance when it comes to gaming services accounts or consoles. Multiple console manufacturers, including Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation, employ distinctive mechanisms to thwart unauthorized access to a console or an online account associated with that console.

PlayStation has introduced a novel method known as the Passkey, which enables users to enter their PS4 and PS5 consoles more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. This contrasts with most gaming services that employ a conventional two-factor authentication system and password protection to safeguard user accounts.

According to Sony, a passkey is a password replacement that provides faster, easier, and more secure sign-in to your account for PlayStation Network. It allows you to access your account without a password. Instead, you sign in through your mobile device or computer using the same convenient device screen unlocking method like a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN.

Moreover, a passkey also reduces the vulnerability associated with traditional password-based systems: It cannot be guessed or reused, is tied to your account for PlayStation Network (PSN), and can only be accessed by you. Passkeys are safer than passwords because they are resistant to phishing and other types of cyberattacks like data breaches.
