Apple’s long-awaited iPhone 12 event finally starts up today, and here’s how to watch along.
With iOS 14 now up and running for users, it was only a matter of time before Apple would pull the trigger on their next series of smartphone. After confirming the time and place we can expect to see it all in action, there was a short window of waiting to be had. Now, though, that’s well and truly over.
Spiralling back to their last event, in September, the developers focused mainly on the next evolution of Apple Watches.
The iPhone 11 released back in September 2019, so there’s been quite the gap since we’ve seen new phone technology from Apple. So, let’s take a look at how to watch the event and what the company announced.
Apple iPhone 12 event start time
Screenshots of online invitations have been flooding the internet since they first started appearing, seen below from Tech Radar’s David Lumb.
As confirmed by this post, the iPhone event starts up on October 13 at 10am PDT (1pm ET, 6pm BST, 7pm CEST).

Announcements
As expected, Apple announced the brand new iPhone 12 during the event itself and brings along with it a slew of interesting features, including the introduction of 5G for the first time. It’s also thinner, smaller, and lighter than the iPhone 11, and features a flattened metal side, similar to the older style found on the 4 and 5 models.
In addition, the company also introduced a smaller version of the aforementioned smartphone: the iPhone 12 Mini. The specs are almost identical to the bigger version, and it’s smaller and cheaper.

The standard version of the 12 is set to start at $799, while the Mini version will start at $699.
If both of those models weren’t enough, another version of the new smartphone was announced: the iPhone 12 Pro. This high-end model will include a different metal frame as well as an extremely upgraded camera.
For the first time in an Apple product, Pro owners will be able to record in both HDR and Dolby Vision HDR, which is set to bring a new level of cinematography to the smartphone line.
iPhone 12 prices
According to Apple, the iPhone 12 Mini is set to start at $699, while the normal 12 comes in at $799, and the Pro comes in at a whopping $999. If you want to get your hands on the objectively best iPhone this year, the 12 Pro Max, you’ll have to shell out $1099, which is a pretty penny to be sure but for what’s included, it makes sense.
All in all, Apple’s current iPhone lineup is incredibly diverse, with an option every $100 if you count older models like the SE, XR, and 11.
iPhone 12 pre-order and release date
For some reason, Apple is choosing to have a staggered launch this year, possibly due to the fact that so many models are launching at around the same time.
For the standard iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro, fans will be able to pre-order the phone starting in just a couple days, on October 16, 2020, with a release date of October 23, 2020.
For iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max fans, you’ll have to wait until November 6, 2020, with the phone releasing on November 13, 2020.
