Marques Brownlee has updated fans on “quitting” YouTube just days after MatPat, Tom Scott, and many other iconic names retired from making content.
Soon after 2024 began, a handful of legendary YouTubers revealed that they were stepping away from making content on the platform indefinitely.
Tom Scott was one of the first with MatPat, the face of The Game Theorists, announcing his retirement just days later. Nearly everyone who’s retired so far in 2024 has been a major part of YouTube for the better part of a decade.
Marques ‘MKBHD’ Brownlee has been around since 2008 and updated fans about his future on January 19, 2024.
MKBHD is not retiring from YouTube
Marques Brownlee’s latest video, titled “On Quitting YouTube,” shocked quite a few of his fans at first, as many believed he was set to announce his retirement.
However, MKBHD was quick to make it clear that he wasn’t going anywhere. Instead, he spent the rest of the video giving an insightful take on what being a creator actually feels like.

However, the title still managed to freak out quite a few of Marques’ fans after the YouTuber posted it on Twitter/X with the caption, “Late night upload, thoughts on “Quitting” YouTube.”
“Words I don’t want to read,” one user replied.
Another said: “Noo, pls don’t quit YouTube.”
“Why do you want to quit a multimillion dollar YouTube channel?” a third user asked.
Although it’s clear that Marques doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon, it raises the question — how long will legacy YouTubers continue their career?
