Posts across social media about NFT Marketplace OpenSea getting hacked has gained the attention of many, but are they real.
There’s no doubt that just about everyone knows about NFTs as they were the most popular “new technology” for quite some time. Influencers and celebs alike bought them, and some even sold for life-changing money.
OpenSea was one of the first marketplaces for NFTs made through the Ethereum blockchain, and now it’s facing a bit of an issue.
On November 11, 2023, tens of thousands of posts about the alleged hack were shared across Twitter/X, but they don’t appear to be real.
Was OpenSea hacked?
No, it does not appear that OpenSea is suffering from a hack.
OpenSea commented on their Twitter page confirming the news.
“There’s no hack. DO NOT click links you don’t trust,” they said.
Hashtags for OpenSeaHack and OpenSeaExploit have taken over Twitter, amassing tens of thousands of tweets in the process.

However, Web3 expert ZachXBT was quick to clear up the confusion with a tweet explaining that the hashtags were being spread by a series of bots across the platform.
“There is a giant bot network pushing this fake news to get people to click on a phishing link,” he said.
The link shared in the tweets offers a way to revoke access to the “hacked” website, but is allegedly a phishing page to steal your information.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened recently, either. On November 9, 2023, a similar incident happened with another crypto blockchain.
“Watch out for phishing scammers pretending there is a uniswap exploit tonight,” another user said.
