Since the launch, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 series has been in the news. We’re here to decode the deets on everything from pricing to specs and release dates for all the Nvidia 40 series GPUs that have hit the streets so far.
The RTX 40 series GPUs have crashed into the gaming world like a new season update. Nvidia’s latest artillery of graphics cards is loaded with state-of-the-art tech, serving up a variety of price points to suit every gamer.
These GPUs have cutting-edge features, including DLSS 3 and AV1 encoding, and even have the 12VHPWR connector on select cards. These GPUs are a tad pricier than their predecessors, thanks to a rise in material costs, so prepare your wallet for some damage.
Operating under the codename Ada Lovelace, RTX 40 series GPUs are crafted from TSMC’s 4nm process, a strategic move away from the Samsung 8nm process that was the cornerstone of Nvidia’s older Ampere lineup of graphics cards. To avoid a launch shortage nightmare, Nvidia secured funding of $10B for components.
Each RTX 40 series army GPU stands on various “AD” chips. The AD102 is the crown jewel, powering the RTX 4090 and, allegedly, its rumored sibling – RTX 4090 Ti. The AD103 sets the pace in the RTX 4080 16GB, with the AD104 holding the fort in the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4070. Additionally AD106 is powering the RTX 4060 Ti and we presume the RTX 4060 will also be using the same.
RTX 40 series specifications
The officially announced RTX 40 series graphics cards are extremely impressive, and they also come with some eye-watering high price points at the high end. Thanks to the recent release of Nvidia’s RTX 4070, there’s finally an accessible price point for the hardware.
Lower-end models are also expected to release, such as a rumored RTX 4050. The currently released graphics cards are all above the $500 mark. However, the introduction of lower-end models should go some way to remedy this.
Below, We’ve listed all of the known RTX 40-series GPUs, in addition to unconfirmed leaks for some cards, courtesy of trustworthy leaker Kopite7Kimi.
Be sure to take any of the leaked specifications with a pinch of salt, as they may change prior to their official announcement.
GPU | Nvidia RTX 4060 (Unconfirmed Leak) | Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti (Unconfirmed Leak) | Nvidia RTX 4070 | Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti | Nvidia RTX 4080 | Nvidia RTX 4090 | Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti(Unconfirmed Leak) |
CUDA cores | 3072 | 4352 | 5888 | 7680 | 9728 | 16384 | 18176 |
Memory | 8GB GDDR6 | 8GB GDDR6 | 12GB GDDR6X | 12GB GDDR6X | 16GB GDDR6X | 24GB GDDR6X | 24GB GDDR6X |
TBP | 115W | 160W | 200W | 285W | 320W | 450W | 600W |
Price | TBC | TBC | $599 | $799 | $1199 | $1499 | TBC |
At the mid-range to high end, we see Nvidia utilize a minimum of 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM. However, current specifications for the RTX 4060 and its Ti variant not only are rumored to come with just 8GB, but they also will be using the slower GDDR6 variant. This could be problematic when running modern titles at high settings, like Forspoken or Hogwarts Legacy.
Significant power draw was also one of our concerns at the high end, however, this is not reflective of the rumors we’re hearing at the low end. The RTX 4090 Ti reportedly tops out at a total board power of a staggering 600W. This will likely require significant thermal cooling on the design of the cards in order to dissipate the hit, as long as you have a power supply that can keep up with these demands. Just be sure to have your 12VHPWR connector fully inserted to prevent any potential melting.
Additionally, we have conducted initial Time Spy Extreme benchmarks for the GPUs currently released, and they are looking incredibly quick. For an idea of what the current cards look like in comparison to the upcoming RTX 40 series GPUs, we’ve compared their Time Spy Extreme benchmarks below.
RTX 4000 series benchmarks
GPU | Time Spy Extreme Score |
RTX 4090 | 18578 |
RTX 4080 | 14028 |
RTX 4070 Ti | 11015 |
RTX 4070 | 8608 |
We’ve collated the RTX 40-series lineup with Time Spy Extreme scores for all released cards right now. We will update this in the future as and when we have further GPUs to test.

It appears like the stack will have a good boost in performance all-round. Right now, the RTX 4070 Ti is as fast as the current RTX 3090 Ti. However, the RTX 4070 is very close in competition to the RTX 3080, making the performance gap pretty narrow.
Though, if you are not keen on splashing the cash on a brand-new card, you should probably take a look at getting yourself a cheap GPU, as all of the prices have been significantly slashed after a cryptocurrency crash, which has saturated the used market with cheap graphics cards, which is causing a headache of an oversupply issue over at Nvidia.
RTX 4000 series release dates
- RTX 4090: October 12, 2022
- RTX 4080: November 16, 2022
- RTX 4070 Ti: January 5, 2023
- RTX 4070: April 13, 2023
The RTX 4000 series has arrived, and with it has come three SKUs so far, with pricing ranging from $1599 all the way down to $599. However, we also expect further GPUs to launch later on in the year, starting as early as May.
The next time we would expect GPUs to be announced would be around May for the RTX 4060, and shortly followed by the RTX 4060Ti.
It’s likely that the lower-end GPUs will be held back until mid-2023, so for those looking for a more affordable GPU to pick up, you might have to wait a little bit longer.
However, it’s clear reports of the RTX 4090 being already in production were true, while the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 were nowhere in sight, this lends credence to the idea that we might be seeing the RTX 4060 land in mid-2023. Though, do take that estimation with a pinch of salt, as things can change rapidly in the run-up to launch.
Regardless, suppliers already received their shipments of RTX 40 series graphics cards, according to a report, so movement is coming along nicely. Though you still might be waiting a while for the graphics card of your choosing to launch.
RTX 40 series pricing
The RTX 40 series currently starts at $599 for the RTX 4070. The 4070 Ti costs $1199, the RTX 4080 16GB costs $1199, and the RTX 4090 begins at an MSRP of $1599.
These prices are higher than the previous generation of graphics cards, as we do not yet have any information about the lower-tier of GPUs, which we presume will be launching in 2023.
GPU | MSRP |
---|---|
RTX 4090 | $1599 |
RTX 4080 | $1199 |
RTX 4070 Ti | $799 |
RTX 4070 | $599 |
Nvidia GPU release speculation
The next GPUs that will be coming out are likely to be the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti. Though, this is just a rumor. If true, the GPUs could be released in Summer 2023.
However, with AMD snipping at Nvidia’s VRAM capacities, it is possible that the lower-end GPUs may be revised to include more VRAM later down the line.
RTX 5000 series speculation
The RTX 5000 series is nowhere to be found just yet. All we really know about the upcoming GPUs are that they will likely be based on a brand-new architecture. We do not yet know anything about the RTX 5000 series release date. Current rumors also suggest that the GPUs will be using TSMC’s 3nm process in order to produce the upcoming chips. We’ll be sure to keep you abreast of any further updates that we hear on the RTX 5000 series.
