A Quest 2 owner on Reddit was left shocked after they woke up to find their headset melted after leaving it charging overnight.
When it comes to VR headsets, there are a few different companies leading the pack. Valve, Meta, Pimax, Sony, and even Apple have released their own products.
Among the most popular headsets, though, are the Meta devices like the Quest 2 and Quest 3.
On February 16, 2024, a Redditor was shocked after waking up to a melted plastic smell knowing that they left his Quest 2 headset plugged in overnight.
Meta Quest 2 melts after user leaves it charging all night
“Left my oculus to charge overnight and woke up to a melted plastic smell. And surprise my oculus charger port melts,” the user said.
Right after making the post, OP shared a picture of the Quest 2 headset with a cable still plugged in to the side of it. Around it, you can see the plastic melted.

Users quickly flooded the comments with support for the Redditor, with many helping OP with contacting Meta for a replacement.
“Contact meta and make sure to use the word fire hazard, you’ll get a free replacement after sending this one in, there are hundreds upon hundreds of reports of this happening to many people, meta are doing replacements,” one user replied.
“Always buy quality cables AND adapters. The Samsung cable should be sufficient but if that charge brick was some random brand that’s asking for disaster,” another commented.
Another said: “These posts are becoming more and more frequent. At what point does it become a real concern? I’ve had my quest 3 for about a month now and have never left it charging over night because of these posts.”
This isn’t the first time a Quest 2 has melted while charging either. Back in November 2023, the same thing happened to another Reddit user.
