The new Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones are now official. Here’s everything you need to know about them.
Samsung has announced its latest and greatest flagship smartphones. The Galaxy S24 series brings three premium phones with it. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra brings the most notable updates with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Titanium build being the major highlights. It also brings Samsung’s best camera system to date.
That said, the S24 and S24+ have also seen decent improvements. They are powered by the same top-of-the-line Qualcomm processor as the Ultra model. Samsung has also promised 7 years of software updates for all three phones— the same as the Google Pixel 8 series.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the most polished Samsung phone we’ve seen recently. The upgrades this year include a massive redesign although the aesthetics of the phone are still the same. You get four protruding camera rings on the flat back.
The phone has a boxy design as its older siblings but you’ll notice one major difference— the display is now completely flat. Samsung got rid of the curved display, which used to be an identifying feature on the Ultra models.
However, the biggest change is in the build quality. Following Apple’s footsteps, the new Galaxy S24 Ultra now features a titanium alloy in its frame to bring the weight down.
Galaxy S24 Ultra has the same screen size of 6.8 inches but the display is now bright up to 2,600 nits. The LTPO AMOLED panel has a 1440x3088px resolution (QHD+) and a 1-120Hz Dynamic refresh rate.
Coming to the major highlight of the Galaxy S24 Ultra— the cameras. Like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the smartphone includes a quad-camera system. The main camera uses a 200MP sensor with 10X optical and 100X digital zoom.
What’s new is the 50MP telephoto unit with 5X zoom. Another 10MP telephoto with 3X zoom is in tow alongside a 12MP ultrawide with autofocus. For selfies, the phone has a 12MP camera.
Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Galaxy S24 Ultra has the same 5,000mAh battery as the S23 Ultra with unchanged charging speeds— 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.

The whole Galaxy Unpacked was flooded with one term— AI. Samsung has indeed introduced some impressive AI features on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Features like Live Translate, Interpreter, and Chat Assist enable two-way real-time voice and text translation.
Elsewhere, Android Auto now gives message summaries and suggests replies, simplifying tasks like sharing your ETA. Samsung Notes introduces Note Assist for summarizing notes, templates, and pre-made formats. There’s also Transcript Assist, which uses AI and Speech-to-Text to transcribe, summarize, and translate recordings.
Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus
Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus don’t see as many fresh features as the Ultra model. Both phones run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Some regions will also get Exynos 2400 but Samsung is yet to confirm which region gets what.
Samsung has boosted their battery capacities, though. The standard S24 now boasts a 4,000mAh capacity, up by 100mAh from the S23. Meanwhile, the Plus model packs a 4,900mAh battery, a 200mAh increase from the S23 Plus.
The Samsung Galaxy S24+ gets a resolution boost, going from FHD+ to QHD+, but the S24 sticks with FHD+. Their screens get a bit bigger too, with the S24 now rocking a 6.2-inch AMOLED display (up from 6.1 inches), and the S24+ stretching to 6.7 inches—an inch more than the S23+.
No changes in the camera department for both phones. They keep the same setup with a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide. And they both still sport IP68 dust/water resistance rating.
