At Gamescom 2022, Sony unveiled the Dualsense Edge, a dazzling new controller with a wealth of customization options, such as back buttons and swappable stick caps for deeper customization.
With titles like Call of Duty and other competitive shooters on the rise on home consoles, customizable controllers are all the rage. Third-party companies were quick to get in on the action by offering controllers and devices that players can switch up to their own will.
Microsoft released the Elite Series 1 controller for the Xbox One in 2015, prompting Playstation fans to begin calling for a customizable version of the DualSense since the release of the PS5.
On August 23, Sony unveiled the DualSense Edge wireless controller with customizable controls, stick caps, and more.
Further details about the Dualsense Edge revealed on the PlayStation Blog
During Gamescom 2022, Sony released a trailer for its new DualSense Edge, and revealed more about its design over on the PlayStation blog.
It reads: “Today, we are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls, the DualSense Edge wireless controller invites you to craft your own unique gaming experience tailored to your playstyle.”

They also detailed the features that will be available with the DualSense Edge like the ability to adjust stick sensitivity and dead zones, as well as adjustable triggers and multiple profiles for swapping controls between games.
The DualSense Edge offers on-the-fly controller remapping, thanks to a function button that allows users to make changes while inside games. This could potentially mean that PlayStation users will no longer have to claw their way through the game just to sprint and move the camera in games like Elden Ring.
Similar to controllers like the Xbox Elite Series, the DualSense Edge also has swappable standard, high, and low dome stick caps as well as half-dome and lever-style back buttons. We’ve seen these functions before in controllers like the PowerA Fusion Pro 2. But, with very few third-party PlayStation 5 controllers out there, this will be the first to capitalize on “Pro” features for the console.
Sony didn’t stop there, however, as the Dualsense Edge will also have replaceable analog sticks, as we’ve seen in higher-end third-party controllers like the Thustmaster Eswap. It remains to be seen what type of stick Sony will be using in the Dualsense Edge, but judging from the current Dualsense, it’s likely to be one that uses yet another ALPS stick, and not a hall-sensing joystick.
It’s unknown when the controller will be available for purchase, or even how much it will cost, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
