Threads users want Meta to stop promoting their posts on Facebook & Instagram

Users on Meta’s Twitter competitor Threads are calling for the company to stop sharing their posts on Facebook and Instagram in advertisements for the platform.

Launched on July 6, 2023, Threads quickly skyrocketed in popularity and amassed over 100,000,000 accounts made on the app in just days.

It died down shortly after, but with the growing possibility of Elon Musk charging everyone to use Twitter/X, people have found their way back to the Meta owned app.

Threads has been sharing posts from the app on Instagram and Facebook, but its users want a way to opt out of the advertisments.

Threads users don’t want their posts on Facebook or Instagram

Since mid-October 2023, people have began seeing a section on both Facebook and Instagram feeds showing off various posts from Meta’s Twitter competitor, Threads.

Under the “For You on Threads,” block, it can show anywhere from one to three Threads posts at a time.

Matt Navarra is one of the many Threads users that pointed out the advertisements, but not everyone is happy about it.

“Threads is now getting help from its big brother Facebook. This new “for you on threads” box now now appears at the top of Facebook’s feed in app,” he said.

Many are excited to see the integration between Meta’s apps, but not everyone wants their posts to show up on another app for various reasons.

“Oh no. I don’t want my threads going to all my Facebook contacts,” one user replied.

Another commented: “I would REALLY love it if Threads stays within Threads.”

While a third user replied why they like the integration between apps: “Good, the speed and confidence in integrating Threads into the other applications makes me optimistic about the longevity, commitment to, and growth of the platform.”

Threads user Ami Berger posted on October 22 that she’d like a way to opt out of the cross-platform posts, only to have that post also pop up on various users’ Instagram feed.

Just hours later, the official Threads account posted that they’re listening to feedback surrounding the feature as they continue to build on it.

“We’ve launched an update to make it easier for people to see the latest content from Threads directly on Facebook and Instagram. But we’re listening to feedback like yours as we continue to build on this,” they said.

We’ll update you whenever Threads has an answer for those looking for a way to opt-out, but for now we’ll just have to wait.
