Aang is our unexpected hero in Avatar: The Last Airbender – but how old is actor Gordon Cormier in real life?
It’s a huge jump to see a beloved cartoon enter the world of live-action, but the casting team behind Netflix‘s take on Avatar: The Last Airbender has absolutely nailed it.
Fans will know that Aang is the Avatar who wants absolutely nothing to do with the role’s responsibility, fighting against his urge to flee in order to do what’s right.
Aang is only a child in the Avatar: The Last Airbender cast, but how old is his real-life actor Gordon Cormier?
How old is Gordon Cormier from Avatar: The Last Airbender?
Gordon Cormier – who plays Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender – is 14 years old.
Amazingly, this is quite different from how old Aang is supposed to be at the beginning of the series, clocking in at the ripe old age of 112. Episode 1 sees Aang frozen in an iceberg before Katara and Sokka find him near the Southern Water Tribe. According to the original story, Aang had been there for 100 years – hence why he is defying the laws of biology.

He’s also the youngest out of the rest of the young cast, with both Katara and Sokka being older than him at 14 and 15 respectively. Prince Zuko and Princess Azula of the Fire Nation are also similar ages, with Zuko being 16 and Azula being 14.
By the time Aang dies in the original story – don’t panic, we’re a way off that in the Netflix live-action series – he is 66 in ‘human years,’ with his abilities sapping his stamina and therefore shortening his life span. According to fans over on Reddit, an Avatar lives on average for around 80 years.
In our review of the new adaptation, we said: “As intricate and whimsical as Avatar: The Last Airbender looks in live-action format – and as much as the representation delivers – the substance behind it just isn’t there.
“Fans of the original are likely to be raging on Reddit in a matter of minutes after this review drops, and we can’t blame them. But don’t panic too much – it’s definitely a step up from the movie.”
All eight episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender are now available to stream on Netflix.
