New concept art has been released which showcases a new Batman Beyond animated feature film that could be in the works.
While most casual DC Comic fans are familiar with Batman and the Bat family (Robin, Batigirl, Nightwing, et.), most are unaware that there’s another member of the Bat family who actually took over the role when Bruce Wayne became too old.
20 years after Bruce retired at the end of Batman: The Animated Series, teenager Terry McGinnis took up the bat mantle after suffering the loss of his father at the hands of a Joker style gang.
Terry soon became the protagonist for the animated series Batman Beyond and its two direct to DVD films, which aren’t well known in the DC verse. However, it seems like a new Batman Beyond film could be in the works as new concept art depicting some scenes from the film have been released.
Batman Beyond concept art could spawn new film
Yuhki Demers, who worked on the gorgeous art behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, recently posted the concept art behind the Batman Beyond film he hopes to make with writer/director Patrick Harpin.
“5 months ago Patrick Harpin walked into @wbpictures @DCofficial and pitched a Batman Beyond Animated Feature,” Demers wrote on Twitter, “Before we pitched, they warned us “there is absolutely no way we can do a 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 movie”, but they loved our enthusiasm. We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe’.”

“In the time since, we’ve been pitching our way up the company hoping to get to @jamesgunn. But for now, here’s a taste of what we’ve been cooking.”
While the original Batman Beyond art style was more in line with Batman: The Animated Series as it leaned into clean lines and darker tones, Demers’ vision for a new Batman Beyond film follows in the footsteps of Spider-Verse, which has brighter colors and looser lines.
Naturally, Batman Beyond fans were super excited to see this work with one Twitter user writing, “WB is run by absolute dunces how do you see this and think ‘hmmm…a light maybe.'”
Every day viewers were not the only ones who are totally on board with the idea of this film and its art style with Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey writing, “Patrick Hardin and Yukhi Demers are two supertalents…LET THEM COOK!!”
At this time, DC is only releasing one Batman animated feature film — Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios — in 2024, so a new Batman Beyond movie could be the spark DC co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran need to get fan excited for their animated department.
