Queen of Tears centers on an already married couple high on the totem pole of wealth for Queen’s Group. Baek Hyun-woo (Kim) comes from a small village and becomes their pride and joy when becoming the legal director for Queen’s Group.

In Moon Embracing the Sun, Kim Soo-hyun takes on the role of the fictional King Lee Hwon. The narrative commences with the Queen Dowager orchestrating the assassination of her stepson to secure her own son’s ascent to the throne. A-ri, a shaman, witnesses the murder and finds refuge with the pregnant wife of the palace’s Chief Scholar.
Despite A-ri’s vow to protect the child, she is discovered and killed. Years later, the child, Heo Yeon-woo, falls in love with Lee Hwon and is destined to become the future queen. However, the Queen Dowager intervenes, orchestrating a scheme to make it appear as though the princess has died. When a mysterious woman gets into the taxi, it changes everything. They spend the night together with Hyun-soo waking up to learn she’s dead. He soon becomes the prime suspect in her murder despite his insistence that he’s innocent. The only people on his side are a lowly attorney named Shin Joong Han (Cha Seung-won) and a criminal kingpin.
