A beloved Britney Spears movie is finally launching on Netflix, and the singer’s fans are getting pretty excited about the prospect.
Britney Spears burst onto the music scene with ‘…Baby One More Time’ in 1999, a tune that remains one of the greatest pop songs ever. She followed that with a string of hits, including ‘Sometimes,’ ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy,’ ‘Born to Make You Happy,’ and ‘Toxic.’
But having started out in TV on The Mickey Mouse Club, Spears was also interested in acting, making her movie debut in Longshot, a music industry comedy that features the likes of NSYNC, O-Town, and Kenny Rogers.
But Spears’ first lead role came in a 2002 road movie that was a modest hit at the time, is now considered a cult classic, and is debuting on Netflix very soon…
Britney Spears classic is heading to Netflix and fans are excited
Crossroads is hitting Netflix next month, with the streamer making the announcement via the following Tweet: “The first movie to ever star the one and only Britney Spears has never been available on streaming… but that’s about to change! We’re thrilled to announce that Crossroads will finally be available on Netflix — GLOBALLY — starting February 15.”
If this one happened to pass you by, here’s the official synopsis: “Crossroads tells the story of three childhood friends, Lucy, Kit, and Mimi, who, after eight years apart, rediscover their friendship on a cross-country trip. With barely a plan, practically no money but plenty of dreams, the girls catch a lift with Mimi’s handsome friend Ben in his convertible. Along the way they not only gather experiences that will change their lives, but they also discover how important it is to hold onto their hearts’ desires.”
Spears plays Lucy, Zoë Saldana is Kit, Taryn Manning is Mimi, and Anson Mount is Ben. The rest of the cast includes Kim Cattrall, Dan Aykroyd, and Justin Long, while the film was written by Shonda Rimes, and directed by Tamra Davis.

Social media is loving the announcement, with one fan Tweeting, “FINALLYYYY!!! omg I’m so happy!!” and another posting, “Ahhh I’ve been waiting for this for so long, thank you.”
Crossroads was rereleased in cinemas last October, to coincide with the release of Britney Spears’ memoir ‘The Woman in Me,’ and one fan is asking: “Will it have the Karaoke Sing-A-Long like it did in the theatres?”
While another wants to know if this will lead to more Britney on the streamer, Tweeting: “Now we just need one of her shows like Live from Las Vegas on there and we’re set.” Meaning the ball is now in Netflix’s court.
But everyone seems happy, with a final fan writing: “YES!!! This is fantastic news! I love Britney and can’t wait to watch this again!!!”
Crossroads hits Netflix on February 15, 2024.
