Riverdale star Charles Melton is set to appear in another film depicting an inappropriate relationship opposite Elizabeth Olsen.
Fresh off the series finale of The CW’s hit teen drama series Riverdale, Charles Melton (who played Riverdale High football player Reggie Mantle) hit the ground running in his post-series career as he starred in Netflix’s true story based film May December.
Acting alongside Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, Melton played Joe Yoo, a young man coming to terms with the fact that his wife Elizabeth (Moore) groomed and abused him since the age of 13.
And it seems like Melton is getting back into the saddle of being in another inappropriate relationship role, abet this time in a less serious setting, as he was announced to star in a new film alongside Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen.
Melton stars in a dark comedy love affair film with Olsen
It was recently announced that Melton will star in the upcoming film Love Child alongside Olsen and directed by Todd Solondz, whose work includes Dark Horse and Wiener-Dog.
According to The Film Stage, the synopsis for the movie reads: “The story follows 11-year-old Junior, a delusional aspiring Broadway star with an inappropriate obsession with his mother (Olsen). After orchestrating an accident that nearly kills his abusive father, he encourages the handsome man living in the family’s guesthouse to court his mother and become his new dad. But when the two fall in love, Junior becomes so jealous that he is no longer the subject of his mother’s attention that he hatches a plan to frame the man for his father’s murder.”

Solondz is best known for his style of dark, socially conscious satire, so it’s unsurprising that this film would lean more into the dysfunctional side of the classic American family lifestyle.
“I am beyond excited to work with Elizabeth Olsen and Charles Melton on what will be a super fun and playful celebration of Hollywood movies,” said Solondz, adding that this will be his “most audience-friendly [film], as far as I can be ‘audience-friendly’ and ‘commercial.'”
Olsen herself has expressed her excitement about the project stating, “I am a long-time fan of Todd’s work and to collaborate with him on this film is a true dream.”
Love Child is set to begin filming this spring with a tepid release date in 2025, which could coincide with the 30th anniversary of his shocking debut film Welcome to the Dollhouse.
