Chris Hemsworth is willing to go the distance to beat Hugh Jackman’s superhero record, even if it means starring in Deadpool 3.
Jackman first donned the adamantium claws in 2000’s X-Men, becoming an immediate fan favorite. If we’re including cameos, he’s reprised his role as Wolverine a total of nine times across his career, a period spanning 17 years between his first appearance and Logan.
Hemsworth’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe dates back to 2011 in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, and his fourth solo movie – Thor: Love and Thunder – is due to hit cinemas in a few weeks.
Why is Jackman’s run as Wolverine relevant? Well, his superhero tenure ranks among the longest-running of anyone in movie history, beaten only by Patrick Stewart who returned as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Chris Hemsworth is catching up to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine record
With Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth will have been playing the God of Thunder for more than 10 years across nine films, including Doctor Strange’s post-credits scene.
In a new interview with BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb, Hemsworth was asked if he’d consider sticking around as Thor for another six years to equal or even beat Jackman’s record.

“I wasn’t going to, but now that you’ve put that in front of me, you make a good point. It’s only six years, I’ve come this far. To turn back now would just be a waste,” he laughed.
Plumb then told Hemsworth that Jackman could throw a spanner in the works by cameoing in Deadpool 3, which seems likely given Ryan Reynolds’ many attempts to convince him.
“I’ll make some calls, make sure that doesn’t happen. I might put myself in Deadpool instead, that would be the offering I think. We’ll see if that passes,” he said.
When will Deadpool 3 be released?
Reynolds is definitely returning as the Merc with a Mouth, and Marvel Studios has confirmed development on a third film that’ll remain R-rated despite Disney’s takeover. However, there’s no release date in sight at the moment. At this point, it’s likely to be 2024 at the earliest.
In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the film’s writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick gave some promising updates about the threequel. They also responded to the idea of Thor facing off with Deadpool, saying: “Oh man, if he did, we certainly couldn’t talk about it. [But] it’d be super cool.”
Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinemas on July 7.
