Christopher Nolan spoke recently about being a fan of the Fast and the Furious franchise, and even has a recommendation about which of the films newcomers should start with.
Christopher Nolan and his movies are well known for their thought-provoking and surreal plots. The award-winning director has made some truly cerebral masterpieces, including Oppenheimer, Memento, and Tenet.
He’s also the director responsible for creating one of the most definitive versions of Batman on film. Surrealist storylines aside, he’s a director who knows how to appreciate the kitsch and camp too.
Which is why it doesn’t seem too uncharacteristic to learn he’s a big fan of the Fast and the Furious movies.
In a recent interview on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the pair discussed the iconic action movie franchise, and Nolan’s thoughts about it.
“I have no guilt about being a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise,” Nolan told Colbert. And paying further compliments to the films, calling them “a tremendous action franchise.”

Colbert then admitted to having never seen any of the films.
“I’m amazed you’ve never seen any of them,” Nolan expressed his disbelief. Then, he offered the host his advice as a true connoisseur: “I would start with Tokyo Drift.” Referring to the third installment of the hit action movies.
As Nolan says in the interview, there’s no need to watch the Fast and Furious films in any specific order, the popcorn flicks can be enjoyed regardless of your knowledge of the story thus far.
So, if you’re like Colbert, and you haven’t joined the family yet, Tokyo Drift is as good a place to start as any! Nolan himself advises you so.
