Coraline was a stop-motion success when it dropped back in 2009, but is it coming back to theaters? Here’s what you need to know about its 3D Remaster.
Based on Neil Gaiman’s dark fantasy novella of the same name, Coraline is another cinematic triumph from Henry Selick, the filmmaker and clay animator responsible for the likes of The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
The story itself focuses on the eponymous girl, who stumbles upon a parallel world with eerie doppelgängers of her loved ones. As Coraline ventures deeper, she confronts a sinister villain who seeks to trap her forever.
The movie’s success stems from its ability to appeal to both children and adults alike, with Coraline remaining a firm classic in the dark fantasy realm. Here’s what you need to know about its 3D Remaster.

Coraline was one of the earlier stop-motion films to be produced in 3D, adding an extra dimension to its visually stunning world. With it being remastered in this format, this typically means the visual quality of the original version will be enhanced, adjusting the depth and perspective.
Remastering can also involve updating the movie for new technology or formats, ensuring that it looks its best on modern screens and playback devices.
No surprise that fans are excited by the news, with one writing: “I’m literally screaming idc if it’s not even a sequel it’s going to be in flipping 3D omg yes please.” Another said, “Please let them add the deleted scenes like they did the last release. We didn’t get to see it outside of the US.”
“Finally get to see it on the big screen!!!” added a third, while a fourth chimed in, “No way, it’s my favorite movie, I’m so excited that it’s going to come out again in theaters.”
