Madame Web star Dakota Johnson stated she will avoid doing big-budget Superhero films in the future following her experience on the Sony project.
While the MCU may be working on introducing new heroes such as the X-Men and Fantastic 4 into the fold, the main Spider-Man IP is still held by Sony. Despite the two cutting a deal to allow Tom Holland and the other Spider-Man actors into the MCU, Sony is still working on developing their own Spider-Verse.
The latest film to be set in the world being Madame Web. The character, best known from the comics, has been brought to the world of live-action for the first time ever.
As well as this, the film also introduces major characters such as Spider-Woman and more into the Sony Spider-Verse, even hinting at a new version of Peter Parker towards the end of the film.
While the movie has only been out for a short while, it is already being slammed by fans and critics alike. Receiving a similar reception to the likes of Morbius, another Sony project that was universally panned by moviegoers.
However, fans have found major enjoyment in watching leading actor Dakota Johnson navigate her way through the Madame Web press tour, the actor going viral multiple times for various comments she has made about her knowledge of Spider-Man, her co-stars, and more.
During a new interview with Bustle, Johnson was asked whether or not she was surprised by the negative reception Madame Web has received. The actor admitted, “Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has.”

Johnson then added that while she does not completely regret making Madame Web, she will likely avoid big studio Superhero films such as this one moving forward.
“It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before,” she said. “I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.”
Lastly, Johnson also expanded on the creative process behind films, hinting once again that the initial project she signed up for was completely changed and the final film was not what she was expecting.
“But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what?’ But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.”
Madame Web is currently in theaters.
