Deadpool 3 will see the MCU’s debut of the Merc with a Mouth – and according to Marvel Studios Japan, he’ll “change the history” of the franchise forever.
Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 raised several questions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: would the existing X-Men become canon, who would play the Fantastic Four, will Channing Tatum finally play Gambit, and above all else, how the hell will Deadpool fit in?
The answer appears to be… seamlessly, with Kevin Feige seemingly giving Ryan Reynolds and co. carte blanche to give fans the bloody, potty-mouthed, and bonkers threequel they’ve been waiting six years to see.
While there’s been a flood of leaks and other rumors in recent months, official plot details are still scarce – but the new synopsis from Marvel’s Japan branch is a pretty big hint.
Marvel Studios Japan reveals amazing Deadpool 3 synopsis
Marvel Studios Japan’s official synopsis for Deadpool 3 reads: “That f**king irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine.”
This somewhat lines up with past rumors of the film being a twist on ‘Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe’ – instead, it’ll follow the antihero and his best frenemy Wolverine (with Hugh Jackman reprising the role) as he potentially offs (or recruits) Fox’s heroes and rogues gallery, including James Marsden’s Cyclops, Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth, and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra.

The TVA is also said to be involved, with Matthew McFadyen possibly playing an agent (earlier rumors suggested Owen Wilson’s Mobius would appear, but that doesn’t seem to be the case). That would make sense, though, given we last saw Deadpool mucking around with Cable’s time travel device; could he be apprehended for crimes against time, which puts him on a collision course with Logan and sets up a multiversal adventure?
“They’re gonna use Cable’s time travel watch thingy & go around to kill most of the previous Marvel movie actors creating a multiversal war/secret wars. This will make a billion dollars easy,” one user speculated. “We always knew there was going to be time traveling and multiverse hopping shenanigans,” a Redditor also wrote.
“I know it’s Deadpool, so I shouldn’t take it that seriously, but “change the history of the MCU” makes me a little nervous. I really hope they’re not going to retcon or legitimately change history/events from prior films, cause I can’t imagine a scenario where doing so wouldn’t just end up hurting the franchise as a whole,” a third commented.
Emma Corrin is also believed to be playing Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier’s long-lost, villainous twin sister. You can find out everything else we know about Deadpool 3 here.
