The mystery of Dune 2’s popcorn bucket isn’t a problem to solve, but a reality to experience – to some of the cast, that is.
When you go to the cinema, the popcorn must flow. A new trend has emerged in recent years to spice up your theater snack experience: increasingly sizeable, limited edition ‘vessels.’
The Batman offered fans the chance to buy a bucket in the shape of a cowl, while Ghostbusters: Afterlife served popcorn in an Ecto-1 and The Super Mario Bros Movie released a huge question block tub.
Dune: Part Two has tapped into a… different market with its “wormussy” vessel, and even its stars aren’t sure what to think.
Dune 2 stars react to viral popcorn bucket
While the popcorn bucket is meant to resemble an Arrakis sandworm, complete with teeth, it’s hard to deny it looks a bit like a Dune-themed fleshlight.
Speaking to ET, Josh Brolin said: “If I see a bunch of people in the theater with one of those freaking buckets in their hand, I’m gonna be like, ‘Okay, you’re an idiot.’
“I’m not gonna stick my hand in there. Like, I’m good. I’ll starve. Unless I’m getting a Milk Dud out of it, forget it.”

Florence Pugh said it “wasn’t okay,” while Zendaya called it “weird… just from a pure eating popcorn standpoint, you can’t get anything out of it. It pulls the popcorn out of your hand before you get it out.”
Timothée Chalemet worried its designer could be “mortally offended” by the reaction to it, “or someone’s going, ‘This is exactly how I planned it.”
Dave Bautista defended the vessel. “I was the complete opposite,” he said, laughing as he admitted to shoving his hand straight in the bucket (over and over again).
“We had the conversations, like, ‘Did nobody realize?’ And I think they all realized and said, ‘Yeah, this is gonna create a stir. Everyone’s gonna want one.'”
The Dune 2 popcorn bucket can be purchased at AMC cinemas now, but it’s unclear if it’ll be available online or in theaters elsewhere.
