One Harry Potter star has just made their feelings about the franchise clear, and it’s caused fans to come to blows over whether she’s in the right.
Harry Potter is one of the most enduring franchises around. With eight movies, a (failed) spinoff series, and a hit theater production, it’s no over-exaggeration to say that it’s one of the biggest fan properties in the business.
It also shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With a Harry Potter TV show in the works, the fandom will soon be feasting again with a new take on the magical wizarding world.
However, not everyone is keen on the fantasy series’ lasting legacy. In fact, one of its own stars has just made it known that they think fans of the franchise should have let it go by now. And, because it’s Harry Potter, the response has sparked a great divide.
Harry Potter fans split after Miriam Margolyes says they “should be over” the franchise
Miriam Margolyes (who played Professor Sprout in Harry Potter) has received mixed reactions after saying she “worries” about adult fans of the franchise.
“Harry Potter — I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now,” she told 1News. “It was 25 years ago and it’s for children.”
Since the interview, fans (and otherwise) have been split between blasting Margolyes on social media and agreeing with her. On the side of the pro-Potterheads, responses have been defending their decision to love the series regardless of their age.
“Being a fan is fine, as long as it doesn’t negatively impact your mental well-being and you can still distinguish between reality and fantasy,” said one X user.

“I’ll never be over Harry Potter,” another wrote. “Plus with a reboot coming how could you! I do fear for the fan response especially since obviously the cast will be kids and people online are rough.”
“What is she saying? It’s a timeless movie,” one comment said. Another agreed: “She can mind her business, I won’t let them go.”
Other responses are all for Margolyes’ plain take on the fandom. In fact, they think she’s speaking the truth, and have applauded her for doing so.
“Lmao she spilled,” one response said, while another added: “She ate this.”
“She said go outside get a job I’m crying,” one said.
One user demanded: “Someone hand her a mic and let her cook!”
“She’s right because why are adults still putting their houses in their dating profiles?” said another.
