Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is, well, on the horizon. Kevin Costner is back in the saddle for the second installment of his four-part Western epic, despite a questionable future for the series.
After leaving Yellowstone to finally see out his passion project thirty years in the making, Kevin Costner‘s epic vision is in full swing. Chapter 1 has been and gone, leaving behind some middling reviews and a poor box office performance.
But you can’t keep a good cowboy down, and Costner is determined to see out his Western dream. So far, we’ve had bandits, a wagon trail, and two brutal massacres – and that’s just three hours in.
Chapter 2 is on the way, but a bumpy release plan and some cold feet from distributors make this budding franchise’s future uncertain. Here’s what you need to know about Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.
Does Chapter 2 have a release date?
Chapter 2 has been delayed, with no new release date announced.
Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1 hit theaters on June 28, 2024. The original plan was to release Chapter 2 in August, just two months after the first installment.
However, The Hollywood Reporter announced the theatrical delay for Horizon: An American Saga – Part 2 on July 10. The decision to delay it was mutually made by Costner’s production company, Territory Pictures, and New Line Cinema. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date.
The delay was to allow viewers more time to catch Chapter 1 when it arrived on streaming services (July 16) after a disappointing box office run. At the time of writing, the movie is currently available to stream on Max.
This does put the fate of the third and fourth installments into question, with Costner telling press at Venice International Film Festival he “doesn’t know” how he’ll make Chapter 3, but maintained that he would find a way.
Horizon: An American Saga cast
Kevin Costner will return to direct and star in Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 as Hayes Ellison, alongside the majority of the Chapter 1 cast.
With many of the main characters’ fates still up in the air, the likes of Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson, and Sam Worthington will return. Not to mention, there’s a new face joining the crew: Giovanni Ribisi, who’s appearance was teased in the end montage of Chapter 1.

What is Horizon: An American Saga about?
The official synopsis reads: “In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won – and lost – through the blood, sweat and tears of many.
“Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends, and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”
Over the four films, the audience will see the history and legacy of the American West unfold, and will also focus on the storylines of several major characters. Those include the romance between Francis and Trent, Lucy’s quest to find her child, and the wagon trail led by Matthew.
Plus, there’s the ongoing conflict between the Native American tribe and the men out to slaughter them. Not to mention the continued quest for land and stability, all fronted by Silas Pickering, who attempts to sell the dream to those poor, weary travelers.
Right now, it’s not clear where Costner’s four-part vision will end up, though we can guess (and hope) that the storylines will converge on each other by the end of the series.
