With Insidious 6 now confirmed by Sony Pictures Releasing, let’s look ahead to the release date, if it’s connected to the spin-off movie, and where the story could go.
Film series star Patrick Wilson made his directorial debut with Insidious 5 in 2023, and it seemed like it would be the last Insidious movie.
The Red Door’s box office was strong, though, so Sony had other ideas.
The film was described as the “final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door.”
Turns out, demons aren’t so easy to kill.
Insidious 6 release date
The Insidious 6 release date is August 29, 2025.
Sony has secured the date for an untitled sixth chapter. However, production hasn’t started, so there is a chance the date could move.
Will Patrick Wilson be in Insidious 6?
No cast is confirmed for the sixth movie. We’re unsure if any of The Lamberts, including Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins, and Rose Byrne, will return.
Byrne’s role in The Red Door cast was quite small, so if the Lamberts return we’d like more of her, please!
But given that Insidious 5 was described as the final installment in the family’s saga, there’s a good chance none will return. That doesn’t mean Wilson won’t come back to direct, though.

What Chapter 6’s plot could be
There’s no official plot yet. Insidious 5’s ending suggested there’s still evil actively lurking in The Further, so we think Insidious 6 could follow new characters being targeted.
The Red Door’s ending showed the lights above the door flickering, suggesting that more demonic entities were knocking on our plane’s door.
But this film series has pivoted away from the Lambert’s before, so it may do so again.
Is there a trailer?
Insidious 6 hasn’t begun filming, so there’s no trailer or teaser footage.
Thread: An Insidious Tale spin-off
A spin-off called Thread: An Insidious Tale is in the works.
The first four Insidious films grossed over $500 million globally, so this isn’t surprising.
Titled Thread: An Insidious Tale, the horror movie will be written and directed by Moon Knight helmer Jeremy Slater.
Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore will reportedly star, with Deadline listing the official synopsis as follows: “The story here is that of a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe.”
