It seems like there’s no stopping Disney and its live-action adaptations, but is Michael B. Jordan playing Hercules in a Disney remake?
Whether it’s The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, or Cinderella, Disney has highly favored bringing live-action adaptations of iconic animated movies into its repertoire.
Alongside this, the studio has extended its remake penchant to the streaming service, introducing fans to popular TV shows including Percy Jackson and Goosebumps.
Heading into 2024, all eyes are on a remake of the 1997 animated film Hercules, but will Michael B. Jordan star in the leading role? Here’s what we know.
Is Michael B. Jordan playing Hercules in a Disney remake?
No, Michael B. Jordan isn’t playing Hercules in a Disney remake. However, a live-action version of the movie is allegedly happening.
News of Jordan’s casting comes from a fake poster created by Facebook page Movie Maestro, stating the movie is getting a live-action adaptation this year.
The caption for the fake poster reads: “Disney Has Cast #BlackPanther and #Creed star Michael B. Jordan for the role of #Hercules in the upcoming live-action film.”
However, Michael B. Jordan hasn’t been attached to any related project, nor has an adaptation of the film been announced for any point this year. That being said, it was revealed back in 2020 that Hercules would be one of the next Disney movies in line to get the live-action treatment — though no further details have ever been revealed.
According to Daniel Richtman [via The DisInsider], the latest updates from the film don’t involve who will be in it, but rather who is leaving. Director Guy Ritchie, originally thought to be attached to the movie, has now exited the Hercules remake, with reports citing he is “too busy” to be onboard.
The Russo Brothers are also thought to be tied to the project, but according to an interview with Total Film, the pair are still “waiting on a script.”

Other live-action Hercules casting rumors
Austin Butler, Dua Lipa, and Ariana Grande have also all been tipped to appear in the live-action Hercules — though nothing has been confirmed.
Back in October, Elvis star Butler was tipped to be the frontrunner for Hercules him, which again was suggested by the DisInsider.
In the same report, Dua Lipa’s name was suggested for Megara, with the quote “Not saying anyone should run with this as 100% fact but a name I hear Disney likes right now is Dua Lipa.”
It goes without saying that Ariana Grande is currently busy with prep for Wicked Part 2, but Richtman also claimed she was to star opposite Taron Egerton in the leading roles.
As of writing, none of this speculation has been confirmed, nor is any official progress with the movie being made — it won’t be an upcoming Disney Plus release any time soon.
A full fake casting was also released on Facebook a few years back, following the stylings of the official The Lion King announcement. Faces included Jodie Comer and Helen Mirren were attached, but once again, this is all fake.
