Kraven the Hunter, directed by J. C. Chandor, is the next live-action film to release as part of Sony’s evolving Spider-Verse.

Kraven the Hunter release date: When is it coming out?

Kraven the Hunter will be released on December 13, 2024.

The release has been postponed several times, mostly due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The date was most recently set for August 30, 2024, but it was announced in April 2024 that the movie was being pushed back to the end of the year.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (of Kick-Ass and Bullet Train fame) has been cast in the titular role, AKA Sergei Kravinoff. Furthermore, the actor has signed on to portray Kraven in future films, meaning that sequels are also possible, should this movie do well.

Kraven the Hunter plot: What will happen in the film?

The official synopsis for Kraven the Hunter reads as the following:

“Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.”

In this film, he could be more of an antihero rather than a villain, similar to how Venom and Morbius were portrayed. According to the film’s screenwriter Richard Wenk, Sony intends to adapt the comic book series Kraven’s Last Hunt at some point, so some thought that this might play in this plot.

Furthermore, the confirmation that many other iconic Spider-Man villains will appear in the film, such as Chameleon and Rhino, could indicate that Sony is once again trying to build a Sinister Six group, something they previously teased as the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Kraven the Hunter: Is there a trailer?

The first official trailer for Kraven the Hunter dropped on June 19 and can be seen below:

The trailer shows that this movie will take a different approach to Kraven’s hunting ability from the Sony game, as he gains the powers of an apex predator after being bitten by a lion on the hunt.

The movie pits Kraven against his father, a ruthless mercenary, as Kraven seeks revenge after being left for dead.
