David Tennant wants to bring the greatest villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back from the dead.
Marvel is frequently criticised for having a villain problem, with multiple MCU projects spoiled by a poor antagonist.
So for every Loki, Killmonger, and Thanos – who elevate the movies in which they are the villain – there’s a Whiplash, or a Taskmaster, or a Malekith, who are rubbish.
But when it comes to small-screen Marvel, one villain stands out from all the others, and David Tennant wants to resurrect him.
The MCU’s greatest villain wants to return from the dead
David Tennant hosted the BAFTAs over the weekend, and while walking the red-carpet, he was asked which of his characters he’d like to reprise – and when Killgrave from Jessica Jones was suggested, his eyes lit up.

“I’d love to do Killgrave,” Tennant states at the 2.30-minute mark in the below video. “Killgrave would be great. That would be good, wouldn’t it? I mean, he did very much get his neck broken. He was very much dead. But never say never in the Marvel universe.”
Killgrave, loosely based on a character called the Purple Man in the comics, was the villain in Netflix series Jessica Jones – a serial abuser who uses mind control to manipulate and brainwash his victims.
And Tennant is correct regarding resurrection – several characters have died in the MCU, only to return from the dead in all kinds of ways, through visions, or via time travel, or through the creation of a character’s subconscious. While the high-concept re-imaginings of What If…? mean that Tennant could return as Killgrave in animated form, should live-action not happen.
And with Daredevil from the Netflix-Marvel stable returning soon via the Born Again series, don’t rule out a Killgrave re-birth.
