The ending of Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 is an action-packed affair that wraps up on a cliffhanger. Here’s a rundown of everything that happens!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1’s eighth and final episode pays off several narrative threads introduced throughout its first seven installments.

Aside from resolving the ongoing tension between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine) Smith, it also brings back several major supporting characters.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 ends with John and Jane learning that their mysterious employer, Hihi, has sent the Ultra-High Risk Smiths (Wagner Moura and Parker Posey) to kill them.

Further complicating matters, John and Jane are already seriously injured after spending most of ‘A Break-Up’ trying to bump each other off. John is in particularly bad shape, and can’t even stand. Oh, and they’re almost entirely out of ammo – Jane has one bullet left, John has none.

On the plus side, only one of the Smiths’ would-be assassins, Ultra-High Risk Jane, is still in fighting shape. Jane partially blinded Ultra-High Risk John when she and John made their temporary escape earlier in the episode. What’s more, John and Jane also have a plan to exploit Ultra-High Risk Jane’s vulnerability when night falls.

As the pair wait to spring into action, they tearfully share their real names: Michael and Alana. John then begins to lose consciousness, and Jane readies herself to confront her Ultra-High Risk counterpart. Jane opens the door she and John have been hiding behind, and the viewpoint shifts to outside the apartment as three gunshots light up the window.

The camera lingers on the window before cutting to the credits, leaving us to wonder whether John and Jane survived.

It sees the Smiths’ neighbor (Paul Dano) enter their apartment the following day, to lend John a book. Upon seeing the shot-up walls, he assumes that John and Jane have violently separated.

The Smiths’ neighbor then gleefully calls one of his colleagues at the real estate firm he works for, declaring he’s going to “sell the s**t” out of John and Jane’s much-prized home.
