As webtoon K-content continues its sky-rocketing fame, the newest upcoming movie Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint has confirmed its dynamic cast of K-drama actors and a BLACKPINK idol. But its cast has some webtoon fans not so pleased.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was originally created by author Sing Shong and focuses on an apocalyptic action storyline. Kim Dok-ja is a typical office worker who finds pleasure in reading his favorite web novel. When the events in the novel come to life, only he can stop the apocalyptic events to change the world and save himself.
The webtoon was announced to be developed into a movie in June with A Time Called You actor Ahn Hyo-seop in the leading role as Dok-ja. Actor Lee Min-ho will also star as the webtoon’s original character, Yoo Joong-hyuk, with a few others joining like Nana, Jung Sung-il, Park Ho-san, Chae Soo-bin, and Shin Seung-ho.
Recent reports have confirmed the casting and have fans either loving the idea or hating it overall. Coming from her role in Snowdrop, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has also joined the cast of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.
BLACKPINK’s Jisoo will play a main role in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint cast
Alongside Lee, Nana, and Ahn, Jisoo is in talks to join the cast as Lee Ji-hye, one of the original webtoon characters that Yoo Joong-hyuk takes on as his apprentice.
According to Soompi, Jisoo has received an offer to star in the webtoon K-drama and has been reviewed positively. But the original webtoon fans have mixed feelings as the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint cast is coming together and almost finalized.
On X (Twitter), a fan posted, “Sorry for being a hater but this casting just does not feel like orv at all,” in response to the casting lineup. Another fan agreed saying, “I’m not excited at all… I mean since they announced it will get LA (live-action).”

Some original webtoon fans felt the live-action is catering to big names in the industry. “They called orv a prime of holy trinity for a reason for God sake..!! Stop casting hot shots (with diff vibe) just to gain an audience!!!” said the fan.
Another fan agreed saying, “You’re so right. I genuinely don’t know why people are saying our opinions don’t matter when we are literally orv fans??? we’re one of the reasons this is getting a drama adaptation if they’re not gonna keep up with our expectations that they’re not going to get their demand.”
Many expressed their disappointment in the actors not fitting the webtoon’s vibe, questioning if the producers even read the story. “I know. I lost it on Jisoo. Like why??? I’m sorry but she’s too old to be Ji-hye. She doesn’t give Ji-hye vibes at all. And lee minho as yjh? This has to be a joke,” expressed one fan.
Some fans came to defend the casting and told those who were displeased to simply not watch it. “Did someone force you to watch it,” said a fan, while another said, “Easy, don’t like it? just don’t watch it and shut up literally no one is forcing you.”
One webtoon fan found no problem with the casting and said, “I read orv… and I am satisfied with the casting. I guess we all have different opinions.”
