Will there be a One Piece Season 2 on Netflix? The live-action anime adaptation has been a huge success, so here’s the release window, confirmed plot, and much more on a second outing.
Get ready to sail the four seas because Netflix’s One Piece is shaping up to set sail for its second season, with more characters, stories, and more set to take center stage.
Season 1 of the new TV show landed on Netflix in 2023, though not to the scope of the anime series, which has been going on for 20 years.
The first batch of episodes did well for the streaming service, so we’re happy to say a second season is happening. Let’s look at what the One Piece cast and characters will be getting up to.
One Piece Season 2 release window
One Piece Season 2 will be released in 2025. It started filming in June 2024.
The release window was announced after Netflix confirmed the series’ renewal in 2023.
This was likely due to the number of viewers the first season earned, reportedly 37.8M views in less than two weeks.
Critical responses were also positive, with our One Piece review giving the show 4 stars, “While many anime live-action adaptations often feel like soulless recreations, One Piece at least seems like it’s trying to create something new out of what has come before, and it’s doing so with a passion just as infectious as Luffy’s.”
In a recent interview with Deadline, Tomorrow Studios President Becky Clements provided an update on the filming schedule for season 2, claiming that the team is still “a long time out” from wrapping.

“July and August are the tougher months, and we adjusted our schedule so that most of our exterior stuff would shoot closer to the end of the year, summer. This is a very VFX-heavy year, so it’s going to be a while. We are a long time out. We film into December.”
One Piece Season 2 plot: What is it about?
According to the showrunner, One Piece season 2 will follow the Straw Hats as they enter the Grand Line and conflict with the Baroque Works criminals.
The new co-showrunner, Joe Tracz, confirmed the next arc to Deadline, “It’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line.” Tracz also promised the adventures would get “even grander.”
There’s plenty of future material for the show to cover, so if the next chapter does well, expect a lot more.
One Piece Season 2 cast speculation: Who could be in it?
It is expected that all the main actors from season 1 of Netflix’s One Piece live adaption will return for season 2, including:
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
- Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
- Emily Rudd as Nami
- Taz Skylar as Sanji
- Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp
- Jacob Gibson as Usopp
- Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown
- Morgan Davies as Koby
While there were rumors that acting icon Jamie Lee Curtis would appear in season 2 as a beloved villain, this potential casting has since been debunked.
However, we’re sure Netflix will have lots of surprises in store for us, too, so don’t be surprised if some new additions are kept under wrap.
