Comedy icon Adam Sandler has shifted gears to portray more emotional characters, with one of his hit child-friendly movies getting a sequel at Netflix.
Die-hard fans have known Sandler for mixing his flair for comedy with resonating messages. While Grown Ups was all about a group of lifelong friends and their comedic antics, it displayed how friendship can stand the test of time. The same is said of Hubie Halloween. A Halloween comedy whose message is about inclusion in a small town.
As Sandler gears up for another Netflix release, Spaceman, it was announced another one of his hit movies is getting a sequel. The actor and comedian has seen gold through the streaming platform. He recently starred in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah with his daughters.
The sequel movie in question will be a welcome treat in many households thanks to its resonating message of growing up.
Adam Sandler’s animated movie will return
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos revealed Adam Sandler’s Leo 2 is in the works, with the animation team “firing on all cylinders” to get the sequel up and running for fans.
Sandler’s hit musical comedy Leo was the most-watched animated movie in the history of Netflix. The actor voiced the character of Leo, an iguana who has lived his life as a class pet. When realizing he doesn’t have much time left, he decides to try and venture to the outside world. His plan includes trying to sneak away when he’s taken for the weekend to a student’s home.

While not being very successful, he realizes a new purpose. Leo comes clean about being able to talk and becomes a guide for the kids in his class. Having seen many come and go, he becomes a voice of reason for many of them. They confide in him their struggles with self-esteem, friendship, and family problems. The Netflix movie resonated as a hit among parents, children, and even young adults.
According to ComicBook.com, Sarandos announced at a shareholders meeting, “We’re kicking around Leo 2 right now The animation team is firing on all cylinders.”
Speaking of its success, Sarandos is happy with how well the movie did as Netflix is putting more effort into animated content. Leo’s success was compared to The Sea Beast. He sees it as being “proof points that we can create original IP in the animated space. I’m super thrilled with Leo.”
Sandler originally developed Leo when wanting to watch Grease with his children. Realizing the hit romance movie wasn’t age-appropriate due to its sexual innuendos, he wanted to create a more approachable kid-friendly movie.
For now, the details of Leo 2 are unclear. The movie ended with Leo giving his final words of encouragement to the students as they leave for middle school. Ms. Malkin is also given a full-time job as a kindergarten teacher.
